3 Reviews of the 6m Emperor

Bought this behemoth as my children keep growing, and are of still an age to love camping. This was a significant upgrade to the 4m classic bell tent we have owned and used for many years.

The space is phenomenal at 3m high across the ridge even your tallest guest will have acres of head room. This height gives the tent a greater useable interior space, I have not known a tent with as much. The groundsheet is heavy duty (although we prefer to put down an additional groundsheet underneath before pitching, especially on gravelly or stony ground). Rugs, lighting, low tables, cushions are a must to give it the bohemian vibe. It has an incredible nomadic feel.

I would say that due to its height and dimensions it does get cold at night, even during a moderately warm British summer evening. Invest in the inners or go further and get yourself a stove. You'll be the envy of any campsite.

We have used ours in all kinds of weather and it has stood up to quite severe gales when other tents (non-canvas) have perished; heavy rain and remained dry on the inside; cold nights with the aid of the heater.

They are horrendously heavy, but you are highly unlikely to be pitching and sleeping by yourself so there'll be many hands. Pitching is a doddle, we now have it down to 15minutes fully guyed out. Pack when it is dry if you can, but like any tent keep packed away wet and it will be destroyed in no time, so make sure you get it dry ASAP. Look after it and you'll have a beautiful tent for many a season to come.

There is no porch so a tarp/awning is essentially for cooking.

Get a stove to extend the season. We now are able to comfortably pitch in late October/November (my daughter wants to spend Christmas in it, now there's a thought) and even in February (pack your longjohns and plenty of firewood)

To echo previous reviews, you will get plenty of attention from other campers. Soak it up.

My family and I simply love it and get stupidly excited before a camping trip knowing that we will be staying in our very own bourgeois Bedouin boudoir.

I can't give it ten out of ten as that would admit to perfection ( it is pretty close), and I reckon some bright spark out there could improve it in someway.

6M EMPEROR ULTIMATE BELLTENT (ZIG)

Firstly the service from Belltent.Co.Uk has been A+++++ The person we dealt with could not help enough, even when we had a few broken bits in our chandelier (no quibbles just sent out some new ones).

As for the tent:

OMG she is a beast lol. I was a little nervous when she was delivered. To say she was heavy is an under statement, it took two of us to carry her to my front door ( I didn't have the heart to leave the poor delivery man to struggle on his own).

As far as putting her up is concerned I was in dread of our first camping trip, but I shouldn't have been. Upon arrival I unloaded the tent and was immediately approached by a 5m bell tent owner who offered to give a hand (thank you Paul) and we had her up in about 25mins.

We where away for 4 days and I have to say she got an awful lot of attention from other campers and children who wanted to know if Harry Potter and Dobby where inside lol

I haven't built up the courage to cut the canvas and put the stove inside yet but I will.

Very pleased with her and plan to buy a 5m bell to use as an annex for a toilet/storage and shower.

Only quibbles I can think of are (and I'm only mentioning them because I know belltent constantly review the design) are:

1. The guy rope and sliders are cheap.

2. I would prefer to pay a little extra to have the gland for the stove cut and fitted.

Happy camping and I'll hope to see you in a field some time soon.

The Emperor is a fantastic tent! It is a tardis that while only a couple of square meters more area than a 5m Bell, that space is pretty much all usable. The pictures on Belltent.Co.Uk don't do it justice and while I have tried to remedy this, you simply must see one of these in the flesh to appreciate just how large it is.

Despite its size it is a remarkably easy tent to pitch. We came to the conclusion that the front A Frame should be put in place and pegged out then the two joint central poles should be put in followed by the remaining A Frames. It took us about 30-40 minutes on our first pitch and that was mostly tying the guys on. I think a 20 minute pitch time is a realistic expectation, while slightly more complicated than a normal Bell it really isn't that complicated.

The quality is to the same high standard you would expect from Belltent.Co.Uk. The stitching is bang on, the cotton while not being the heaviest is a good quality and all the metal frames are solid. We also had a few heavy showers whilst away with no leaks. (canvas needs a wetting to make it water tight, or so they say).

The tent could comfortably sleep 6 to 8 people. We will be using it for our long weekend and longer trips. There is ample room for everyone over this length of time and all the kit you would need.

As you can see by the pictures we married it up with our 5m Bell for an annex. This worked really well and was easy enough to do although may take a little practice to perfect. It gives you a monumental 11 meters of tent!

The tent is a fantastic buy, the only niggles (and they are minor) is that the guy ropes are a bit cheap (which are the same as the bell tents), for the price of the tent surely they could have put rope with wooden sliders on it like C&C do. The other one is that the mesh for the windows is on the cheap side as well.

To end on an up note, we ordered the SIG version of this tent and instead received a ZIG. Well done Belltent.Uk

I could not recommend this tent highly enough. These are not just for fluffy glampers (my wife) but also for people who want an alternative to mainstream tents (me).
