1 Reviews of the Awaya 440
By: 2gocampin Reason: I own(ed) one Made in: 2010 Rating:
We decided to get an Awaya 440 as a replacement for our Bear Lake 6. The Awaya has the quality that Cabanon are known for, the stitching is perfect the materials are second too none and the feel of the tent is pure quality.
We went for the Awaya as we are not too keen on the all season polyester of the Biscaya range and love the weight and feel of the cotton canvas. The Awaya has dark blue bedroom pods which is great at keeping the early morning sun at bay for a little longer than normal and these are matched by window blinds and the odd trimmed panel. It has one door to the right of the front panel and the front can be rolled back to open the tent up in warmer weather. It pitches the same as the Biscaya's with the internal poles front middle x2 and back which are all alloy and it has a good weight ZIG.
Now while we have yet to use the Awaya in anger we have had it pitched in the garden for a while and its done what you would expect of a Cabanon with no problems at all, and we have had some appalling weather thrown at it.
Its a doddle to pitch even single handed and everything slots together perfectly. However, its a tad dull and lacks the little extras that most modern tents come with nowadays. There is little or no storage pockets, the bedroom pods have single zip doors with no mesh panels, the windows do not open and the colours are still old-school even if they have lost the dull green and washed out yellow.
So to sum it up: The Awaya 440 is quality through and through but slightly dull and old fashioned compared to the Bear Lake, its just a shame the two companies cant get together and make the perfect tent.
