2 Reviews of the Canvas & Cast 5m Bell Tent

By: Teekayk  Reason: I own(ed) one  Made in: 2012   Rating:

We bought the Canvas and Cast bell tent just as the company was being taken over by Bell tent biz.

When we first weathered the tent it leaked a lot, but had no problems on our first proper camp.

The canvas and ground sheet are both of excellent quality as is the pole. The porch sails are a nice touch too, although we haven't actually used them yet.

I wish the door had insect netting, but I knew it didn't when I bought it, so am hoping to make something to hang from the A frame myself. We bought a bell tent for short breaks, as out large tent is too much work to set up for only a couple of nights. It is heavier than I expected, so not quite as easy to erect as I first thought it would be.

The pre-made opening for a flue is handy for us as an EHU entry point.

We use 3 large fishing beds which fit nicely round the edges, enabling us to have the central space free for other items.

I miss having a proper porch area like we have on our larger tent for cooking, so am trying to set up a tarp arrangement outside this year.

A lovely tent for short breaks, but I miss all the handy extras that come on our larger tent, like hanging points, pockets etc.

This tent is AMAZING. It is of superior quality in every respect. Pegs as thick as fingers, guys 1cm in diameter, 5cm long brilliantly effective, wooden sliders. A lovely, strong wooden pole. The canvas is heavy. It smells and feels beautiful.

It is fireproofed and having been in it now I feel very confident that adding a stove would be as safe as it ever could be in a tent. The initial pitch was tricky because, as I had been warned by Canvas and Cast, the canvas would be stuck together and I had to un - peel it. This done, it took less than 25 mins by one person and I won't have to unstick it again!

There are beautiful, real rope ties to tie the sides up in hot weather and to tie the fly screened windows open. This tent diffuses daylight wonderfully and with the sides up, on a hot day is pretty cool for a tent! It is easy to make this tent taught and look professionally put up. It simply shrugs the wind and rain off. It is fantastically atmospheric. The bedroom inner, with fully sewn in groundsheet and two rooms, is ordered separately and feels like sleeping in finest Egyptian cotton.

I also ordered the 'luxury groundsheet' which creates the effect of a carpeted room. It is of a khaki green, thick canvas, with a thick waterproof backing. The original groundsheet we use as a foot print. I also have the 5m Tarp, ordered separately and this makes a wonderful awning/outside living space. I would say this tent comfortably sleeps 6 and 10 like spokes of a wheel around the pole. It folds easily and goes back into the bags without too much difficulty. It is bigish and heavy to pack with all the extras but more than worth it.

It represents incredible value for money. Unfortunately there was a 2 week delay with delivery because I was informed that the tent was out of stock when I ordered it and the manufacturers were late with their delivery to Canvas and Cast. This tent couldn't be better, it was well worth waiting!
