1 Reviews of the Cinch 3 Man Pop Up
By: Guidepost Reason: I own(ed) one Made in: 2010 Rating:
I used a Eurohike Flash 2 man pop up a few times, largely whilst travelling through Norway. It was ok, but a bit cramped and I wasn't convinced of its weather proofing.
I decided to look for a larger pop up tent with higher spec last year. After much googling and reading of reviews it came down to a choice between the Outwell Fusion 3 man tunnel and the Cinch. I plumped for the Cinch because of the dual porch/entrance design. Also, they seemed to be a new British player and I felt like supporting them.
I have to say that I love it. If you are arriving in a vehicle, so don't need to worry about weight or ease of carrying, then the convenience of just throwing out a pop up, especially in the rain, is just what you need, I think.
In the case of the Cinch, this convenience does not come with compromises in quality. The design and construction are excellent. After a week in the Galloway Forest, wild camping, it has come though without a hint of a leak. The water beads up and rolls off, just as you would hope. The makers claim a hydrostatic head of 3000. It is also fire retardant, apparently.
It would comfortably sleep 3, with storage in both porches, and in large pockets. There's a substantial lantern hook, and it feels sturdy. However, I have used it as a 2 man tent, and this is where it really wins. Loads of space. I'm a substantial bloke, and hate having to turn in tight spaces. I felt I could lay out the mats and bags without fear of brushing the tent walls, even with all the kit inside.
It's not a tent you'd want to hike to the top of a mountain with and pitch in a gale, but for quick pitch camping or festivals, the Cinch is outstanding.
Folding away is very simple and is done inside a minute with some ease.
I think the RRP of £120 on the site is a bit wide of the mark, but it is available from Amazon at £69 which, to me, seems superb value. It looks pretty cool too. I'll upload a photo.
