4 Reviews of the Da Gama 5
By: Danieloj5 Reason: I own(ed) one Made in: 2017 Rating:
This is an excellent tent, its easy to put up, spacious and sturdy tent. However the build quality is horrendous, ours was brand new out of the bag and there was a pinch to the fabric of the outer tent material which meant there was a small hole, the inner bedroom compartment zip had a kink in it, meaning it was impossible to zip and unzip the bedroom (had to use other side door), the fabric that connects the hook to the pole fraid, and is only held on by a couple of threads. Contacted Coleman, who don't want to know, neither does the retailer (Grasshopper Leisure, Wisbech) This was our first trip in the tent and we loved the tent but not the quality of the build or aftersales service.

We bought this tent and the extension last year after looking for a tent with a vertical entrance(to stop rain coming in with door open), high head height(im 6'4), good build quality and with an extension that had a door on it rather than just open to the elements.
The tent is very good, almost spot on, very spacious and strong. The steel poles and clips make it easy to put up, although we are still working on our record time!
We would have given it full marks however we have had to modify it to make it possible to camp in cooler/breezy weather. We found that the open vent in the bedroom made it very drafty with a slight bit of wind, so we had to sew a flap on the inside with toggles so we can close it when we go to bed to keep the warmth in. With regards to the very useful extension, we found that on a night we could really hear the flap which connects to the main tent blowing around in the wind and scratching and rippling on the roof which was very annoying. Good job my other half is handy with a sewing machine, she attached another pole mesh sleeve(salvaged from another extension)to the flap and with another pole we can now sleep soundly with an even more structured tent, plus it holds the extension off the tent meaning it all drys quicker too!
All in all though we would still be happy with this tent even if we hadnt done the modifications. Hope no one else gets one though, nice having a different tent to all the go outdoors tents lol.

We bought this tent at the NEC show and used it for the first time at the Easter weekend. We are both in our 70's and this was our first return to camping after 35 years. It took us 50 mins to fully set up the tent, including fully pegging out, setting the inner tent and tent carpet. We took things steadily and found the process quite easy in the calm weather that we had. The steel poles helped in this, and gave greater all round height.
The tent itself is large and comfy for the two of us, we would not like to fit in five without the extension. The weather was calm throughout the weekend so we have not tested it in wind yet, but the guy ropes seemed to be strategically placed for security.
We particularly liked the insect screens included which when the doors were opened gave us great views and kept the varmints out. The instructions for setting up attached to the bag, were virtually useless, and we advise trying in your garden first, if you do not want to be embarrassed.
All in all we are happy with our choice and would recommend this tent.

I bought this tent to fulfil two functions,ie: a solo tent with lots of room and a tent capable of growing for two people and two dogs. I have only used this tent for two nights so this review is not much more than first impressions, but I must say, I am impressed. If you have watched any tunnel tent pitching videos ( peg four corners, put up middle pole etc,) this tent is a breeze to erect. It took two of us about 15 minutes start to finish without breaking a sweat.Once up, this tent is very stable. We were in a lovely cliff top position and had wind ,rain, and that other rare kind of weather ( think it is called sunshine )The tent handled everything beautifully, being very stable and remaining dry inside. The headroom inside is fantastic, and because if the style this does not reduce much near the sides, giving a great amount of usable space. The 'build quality' seems to be extremely good on first inspection. The bedrooms are just about tall enough to stand up in at the front so no need to crawl around when getting changed. Living area is bright and pleasant to be in. I can't wait for my next outing ( late July ) which is for a couple of weeks. I will have got the front extension by then so will be able to give the extended outfit a thorough test. I will report back on that when I return. Only nine out of ten?.That is just in case I can think of some small niggle that knocks off a star. So far this tent is, for my needs, almost perfect.
