7 Reviews of the Mackenzie Cabin 6XL

Bought this and used it twice. This time round the rain came through the seams And the tent flooded. Had to throw it. The space is brilliant but I wouldn't recommend this tent. We were lucky to save everything including the electrics but I wouldn't recommend for the price. One good thing about it was the heavy steel poles. They beat fibre poles any day

We've had this tent out twice this year and was a little worried about leaks mentioned in other reviews however we had none despite our recent arrival being accompanied by a day of heavy rain. We found that rain dripped in and wet the entrance however by taking a closer look at how we pinned the tent down at this area we found we had made it too tight and so created a slope for the water to run in. Once rectified there was no further water. Seams held up with no leaks and the space this tent gives is huge. We had bought a kitchen unit for it but found there would have been space for a wardrobe and other bits too. Easy to pitch for 2, especially second time round with poles all colour coded. I'm 6'6' and I had loads of head room. Worth getting the footprint and carpet for extra comfort as the size lends itself to spending time inside. Zip in extension available we,'re getting for next year so we can store bikes inside too.

We bought this tent last year and used in twice for a couple of weekend breaks. Easy to pitch and very roomy. Weather was great and had a fab time. Unfortunately not so for last weekend.Had quite a bit of rain and I noticed a leak coming through one of the seams in the roof just outside where the bedroom pods are, this got progressively worse over the next day as rain continued to fall. Decided to pack up and come home! Pulled back carpet to find lots of puddles on the groundsheet where the rain has leaked through again from the seams. We were very annoyed to say the least. Retailer didn't want to know as the tent was outside the 1 year warranty but fortunately phoned Coleman who told us the tent was guaranteed for 2 years and they have told us we are entitled to a full refund or exchange. We bought a Coleman tent as heard they had a good rep when it comes to tents, may reconsider now for my next tent!

Smashing tent. Upgraded the size to a bigger tent due to a trip to France for 11 nights. Tent was superb. Easily put up with me and the wife. Not tested during rain yet. Would have given it a 10, but thought the living room windows should open with a fly screen. The extension is really good addition as this gives even more space inside the tent.

We've downsized to the Mackenzie Cabin 6XL now that the kids have decided that camping with their parents is not for them. Initially the pitching of this tent was a struggle when following the Coleman Instructions. Having abandoned the instructions for a more pragmatic approach it only took about 45 minutes to get the tent up. This was achieved by only putting the first set of steel pools in, pulling the pole upright with the guy ropes and pegging them down. Next stage was to put the second pole in and pulling the tent into shape. Poles three and four followed in sequence. This was a lot easier than the instructions.
I agree with some of the comments re quality control. The zips stick occasionally. The carpet is a bit low quality however as a spacious tent it is excellent. We have the canopy too which works very well. To be fair we've only experienced some light rain but no leaks detected. Plenty of fellow campers commented on how nice the tent was and the spaciousness. I'm extremely happy with the tent just a little irritated by the zips at times. I'd recommend this tent to anyone. We have been camping for a few years and needed a larger tent. Our old tent was great for bedrooms but no room to move inside if weather was bad! We purchased this tent, extension, carpet & footprint for £600 so really pleased with price. We have used this tent twice now, actually putting up the tent is reasonably easy and we can do the whole lot in just 40mins which I think is great. The area inside the tent is massive and can adequately cope with all 6 of us(2 x adults +4 x Kids). The extension is fab and again lots of room and if weather does turn you can sit in without feeling like you are enclosed. I love the windows & doors, so much light and Fly screens are great to put up to let air in but keep flies out! We have only encountered a short shower in tent and everything seemed fine, our old tent was 1500Hydrostatic head and that kept us dry so this one being 4000HH should be great. We purchased from the Caravan & Camping show at the NEC and after taking advice from another family who owned one decided to buy it. We Love It!

We had camped before but with the arrival of Baby Billy 4 yrs ago we needed a bigger tent. We did our research before purchase (reviews on this marvellous website plus visiting various retailers) and thought that for a reasonable amount of money we would have a top quality tent with the 6XL.
WRONG!
Cabin 1. 3 nights in Lancashire (August) some testing rain and and wind, but this was supposed to be a quality tent and our neighbours in their similar size similar style (Vango) had no problems art all. We had leak. Leak. Leak. Major seams in roof and also around one of the windows. Oh and the unique self rolling window gadget is only put on one of three windows. Gimmick. Tent returned to the dealer.
Cabin 2. 3 nights in Keswick in a very dry September (exceptionally light showers in other words) We had more leaks in more places and noticed the finish of the tent was very poor. No evidence of quality control. The carpet was so loosely woven it snagged like fury and was looking decidedly tatty after only 6 nights away.
The only positive thing we can say about this tent is that we can thoroughly recommend the footprint. It was a nice rectangular shape and was the right size for the tent.
Since returning cabin 2 we purchased a tent from another manufacturer and have not looked back.
