8 Reviews of the Salt Lake 9

This is only our second tent, but the space is fantastic, had no problems with leaking etc, but is a bit of a pain to put up, especially the internal frame. Would recommend it to anyone, but practice putting it up before you go away! We bought it off ebay second hand and had no instructions to help us put it up.

Have just come back from camping trip with our Salt Lake - found it a little difficult to put up first time as the instructions are limited to say the least - I'm an experienced camper but struggled with the two yellow 'porch poles'. We had the same problem in that one of the pods, doesn't sit flat to the floor. Had a problem with the water coming through the back of the tent under the door as ground sheet is not sewn in and had a puddle in the middle of our living area. Also the front door does flap in the wind, it could do with another peg point in the middle.

However, we were very pleased with the tent as we had it a bargain price in a sale. So for the price we paid for it, it is a very large roomy tent and suits our family and dog.

We bought this tent thinking it was a six berth tent, only to discover it was actually a nine berth when we got it home. My husband was not keen on camping, but even he says that he was glad that we had this tent for the first camping trip. It would be a bit tight for space in my opinion to sleep 3 per room, but for 2 there is lots of room, as for the living area, you couldn't ask for more space, especially seen as how there is only the 2 of us and the dog. Plenty of room for a table and chairs and space for the hob and fridge. Would recommend buying this tent to anyone, only thing, it can be a bit difficult to put up until you get the hang of it, the instructions (in the loosest terms) leave a lot to be desired hence the 9 out of 10

Huge space and easy to erect but had same problems with the corners of the inner square not sitting properly on the ground.

Each of the ends let air in due to lack of fully sewn in groundsheet. We had strong winds and the front door was flapping like nobody's business.

We also found ours leaked from the roof on the front portion and the poles in each corner of the inner square let water in. The strong wind also blew rain in via the central roof ventilation. Frankly though I can see this is a problem with any tent having this arrangement.

Due to the leaking roof the tent is going back to the shop today.

Shame really as the space was fantastic.

We love this tent. We use it several times a year and haven't had any problems so far. It is spacious , robust and mostly we don't put up the pod at the back. This gives us loads of living space. It is really simple to erect although we find it does need 2 people. The only reason why it gets 9 instead of 10 is that often we find the sewn in sections at the corners of each of the sleeping pods are high from the ground and pulled very tight. However much adjustment we do it never seems to keep flush to the floor.

We are using this tent for a two week holiday in France this year and am definitely confident that the tent will hold up.

This is a great tent for a family. If you do not need the third inner tent installed at the back of the tent, this leaves a large oblong living area to put your essential equipment.Even with the inner tent installed

There is still plenty of room.

We bought the tent in 2007 & unfortunately for us whenever we put the tent up it was raining (2007 & 2008).

Once mastered it is pretty easy to put up.In our case it takes two of us to erect it but I watched & marvelled at a bloke who erected his Salt Lake by himself.(showoff)

The only bad part of the tent is that the bottom of the front & rear doors do not attach to anything & can cause a draught or water leaking in.Hence the 8 out of ten.

Apart from that the tent is waterproof (well tested for that) & has been totally reliable.

3 removable sleeping pods

Lots of storage pockets

Easy to pitch

This is a great tent for a family. All the sleeping pods are of really good size a double and a single air bed fit in easily, which still leaves a good sized living area. As there was only two of us and a dog we removed the rear pod,and that gave us a massive living area. There is a large window in the front door, and a large clear roof light which has mesh over it. Even though the tent has a full sig with the roof and pod vents it is a very well ventilated tent, so condensation was not a problem. The salt lake only has a 2000hh but in two horrendous thunder storms the tent stood up fantastically well no leaks and it was very stable. The front door is the only bad point on it as the previous review commented on it has not got a d zip and, rain can drive in from the bottom. That is the only reason I have not given it 10 star rating .At the price this tent is available at it is a bargain for a large family, and you wont regret buying one.

3 bedrooms, all removable.

Full SIG.

Pitches outer first.

Overhead storage in main area

Pockets on both sides of each bedroom.

Mesh windows front & back of each bedroom

Full length mesh inner-doors

2000 HH

Steel pole uprights with composite poles across top.

An excellent family tent and an absolute bargain at the moment for £135.

Plenty of mesh vents and a skylight over the main area.

The website pictures suggest that the (slightly)smaller bedroom has a rear access - it doesn't. But, because it backs onto the rear door it is the airiest room. All rooms have large mesh windows onto the main area that can be covered if required. The bedrooms have D shaped doors and the front/rear doors are zip-down type with full length mesh screens. I would have preferred D main doors so the dog could have some time off the lead.

Only 1 PVC window on main door

Steel poles are used for the upright support of the doors and main area - this adds to the weight, but really, how far would you carry it anyway.

Its the same shape as the Magellan but has less HH (still 2000 though) and a different window arrangement.

We loved this tent, there were only 4 of us, the kids had a room each and it was palatial.
