5 Reviews of the Trailblazer 5

By: Leshem  Reason: I own(ed) one  Made in: 2011   Rating:

Bought this tent 6 month ago and used it 4 times.

A mid size tent comfortable for 4 people but may be cosy for 5. The tent have one sleeping 'room', ideally for families with small children, No suitable for those who would like separate rooms. Head room in the sleeping compartment is great, the porch is a bit lower yet enough.

The tent is very easy to pitch, in our experience it stood 2 night of non stop rain without any problems

A great inexpensive tent.

A 'cosy' 5 berth if you don't mind squashing into one sleeping area but ideal for a couple, easily taking a double airbed with plenty of extra space to stow belongings.

Stood up well to a wet weekend in Norfolk, just a couple of minor leaks where the ties were sown in over the doors. Quickly solved with a bit of sealant.

Quick and easy to pitch, though being inner first avoid this in a downpour! Very stable once pitched.

On the negative side the living area groundsheet isn't sewn in and we have had birds and plenty of bugs coming in under the gap below the flysheet.

It can also get a bit drafty in the living area in windy conditions.

We have a bigger family tent for our longer holidays, but have kept this as a great little 'weekender'

A handy tip, if you can get them the Vango Tamor carpet and footprint are a near perfect fit for the Trailblazer.

We bought this tent toward the end of Summer 2007, it was an upgrade from a tent that I had which was about 7 or 8yrs old and had sadly leaked. We took a trip a large camping store (Camping Intl) down in Chatham and looked about. Have always liked the dome style tents, but wanted one that was massive. Found the Coleman Trailblazer 5 and it was on sale! it looked the Dogs B******* so without hesitation we bought it and took it camping with us on the 26th September 2007. Probably a bit late for camping but we had only planned on a long weekend which turned into a week.

The tent was brilliant. Until the cold and wind came! the flysheet does'nt seem to meet the ground in the porch area so when the wind gets up it seems to come from underneath and make the porch area very drafty, said that though it did still stand the winds and rain were very bad and on that same site in Dorset just a few weeks before our old tent had collapsed underneath the winds. The trailblazer didn't move, you could have dropped a bomb and it wouldn't have moved, it was superb under the conditions just put us off from the drafty porch. That I managed to fix though by a trip in to town the next day to a hardware shop to buy from lawn edging this filled the gap and kept the drafts at bay but that wont work if the water gets up from the rain, so sadly it's in the loft and we upgraded again. Other than that it is a super tent.

Used 2007 in some horrendous weather in France. Stood up well to all that was thrown at it. Only two of us and to be fair any more than 3 wouldn't be comfy. Great headroom in the bedroom area. Living area lower, but we managed to sit at a table in it.

Erects inner first, and can be up in a matter of minutes.

Inexpensive alternative to Vango Venture 500. Recommended.

Great inexpensive tent. Easy to erect by one person. Dry, warm and cosy. Good porch area with additional benefit of both sides opening. Used for myself and 2 dogs, would find it hard to imagine fitting 5 people with gear in comfort, hence the rating mark down. Otherwise no negatives.
