1 Reviews of the De Vrijbuiter Dallas 4
By: Ross99 Reason: I own(ed) one Made in: 2009 Rating:
The Dallas 4 is a cotton Dutch style pyramid tent with ZIG. The tent comes with an inner tent that has a dividing curtain but no floor, just PVC flaps that lie on the ZIG. The front wall is moveable, the normal position leaves the front of the tent as a porch and the ZIG then attaches to the front wall, in the other position the wall zips onto the front of the tent.
Putting the tent up is a bit awkward the first few times but is quite easy really. The ZIG is pegged out first, you then zip the flysheet on and raise the entire tent with centre pole, insert the two frames for the door and front of the tent, peg out and that's it. Being a pyramid there are a lot of pegs but with practice the whole tent can be put up in half an hour. You could pitch it with the ZIG attached to make it quicker but packing it up in the bag like that would be awkward.
My tent is green but the newer colours are meant to be blue, both colours will not reflect light that well which means that the tent can be hard to light with just a single lamp (mood lighting would be an apt term) but on the plus side it is nice and dark when you want to sleep. The general quality of the tent seems high, there are some thread ends but no bad stitching that I can see. There is meant to be a separate awning for this tent but due to quality issues we couldn't get one, but to be honest you get a better solution by using a tarp an a few king poles.
When we first got the tent we put it up in the garden and soaked it a few times, not a drop came through the cotton but there was some water ingress via the poles as I'd not pushed the caps down enough. Whilst in Holland and France we had some very heavy rain and again not a drop through the cotton, but there was water coming in via the porch side windows where the stitching for the curtain retainer toggles acts like a wick, not really a big problem though.
I only have three small issues with this tent:
1/ The side poles for the front sections really need sleeves in the cotton to allow the porch sides to be pulled tight enough to please me;
2/ It would be nice to have an extension for the ZIG when using the front wall right at the front of the tent;
3/ A separate bag for the ZIG would be nice.
Would I buy this again? Without a doubt, fantastic value seeing as I only paid €399 for it. Plus with so many pegs I can spend hours tweaking it to my heart's content.
