1 Reviews of the Caister 3

By: Andrewsvoice  Reason: I own(ed) one  Made in: 2013   Rating:

I bought this as a tent for solo camping trips after looking at several other three man tents. A three man tent for me is perfect for one person and your gear so you don't feel squashed.

This tent is easy to put up by one person. I also purchased the footprint to add that extra protection and make it easy to site. It is a dome tent with a tunnel with front door that can be put out on the supplied poles to make a porch and a side door.

The outer tent is put up first followed by clipping in the inner tent and attached ground sheet. The outer tent has a 3-4 inch groundsheet lip around the inside edge which the inner tent goes over to provide a kind of seal against the elements. With a footprint this adds even more protection. So with everything clipped in to place the tent is effectively sealed off from the outside unlike many 3 man tents of a similar size.

There is room to sit in one standard camping chair inside the tent as long as the rear legs are inside the sleeping compartment. A nice cosy place to sit and watch the world go by.

I can't vouch for the waterproof-ness of the tent as it was dry when I used it. However it does boast a 4000mm outer.

Now for the weaknesses of the tent. The supplied pegs are thin and wouldn't stand up to hard ground at all. The tent poles are also thin and I can't imagine them standing up well to very strong winds. I would be worried about the poles snapping if flexed heavily.

I think it would be cramped for three certainly but would be a good type of cosy with two.

However for the £89 which I got my tent for you can't complain. A good little tent overall.
