3 Reviews of the Croyde 4

By: Campasarow  Reason: I own(ed) one  Made in: 2014   Rating:

Purchased end of season last year (2014) our Croyde 4 was used for the first time in anger this summer. Two weeks in Cornwall during August so we had all kinds of weather; hot sunny days, strong breezes, drizzle, downpours and on one occasion almost 24 hours of constant rain. Well the Croyde took everything the elements had to throw at it and it was watertight and rocksteady. I had invested in the Storm Straps and this definitely contributed to it being a very stable tent.

First pitch was challenging given the tightness of the fabric so even though we used the Cross method of doing the ring and pinning it was hard work.

Steel poles, including two internal poles going the full length of the tent help to make it a very sturdy beast.

There are loads of windows meaning lots of light with practical pockets to stuff the covers in.

With full mesh on the two side doors you can get lots of ventilation in plus their are the two ventilation panels on the rear.

We use this as a two person tent only and it was perfect for my wife and I. Even with a large kitchen stand and table in the living area there was still plenty of space for the two of us to sit.

The sleeping pod, with the centre divider zipped out meant we had plenty of room for our two single aero-beds and luggage.

The built in porch is a real boon. Perfect for sitting, reading and quaffing tea when its a tad breezy, drizzly or you need to shelter from the sun.

It's a quality tent and admired by others. In fact one seasoned camper on the site came and had a look round and was sold on it as her next tent.

I would have no hesitation recommending the Kampa Croyde 4.

Good overall tent that appears to be very well made, main reason I chose it was that it had steel poles and was on offer as a complete bundle. The kampa brand is also a quality one. The inner gives you two bedrooms, however I think the bedrooms are far too small and we left out the divider to make one bedroom. Mind you the advice on tent buying is buy one 2 men bigger so not surprised by this. The only thing missing for me is a mesh fly screen on the front door. Apart from that it is ideal for two people. The built in porch is also a good feature and I would recommend this tent for use by two people , then again there is plenty of choice out there and most are quality. Finally a word of caution the bag with the poles in is heavy.

After searching for a good solid tent we decided on the Droyde 4. We used it for the first time Easter 2014.

It is easy to set up and has plenty of room inside for the two of us. It stood up to heavy rain and strong winds on the Sunday night, with one small leak on a seam.

We also purchased a vestibule which gives a lot more room in the porch area. It is not easy to peg it and keep enough tension to keep it taut. We will use storm straps the next time and hope this cures the problem.

It is a very good and roomy tent, with some nice features such as the side door with a rain hood.
