Time to do review of our tent we have had this tent for two years the reason I have not done a review is we have used many times but we have been lucky just had the a few showers when we have been camping that changed one our last camp we were camped out on the Gower at Pitton Cross and did we have a wet and windy couple of days/nights in July did look at the weather forecast so I normally pump up the tent to 10psi and have read on a few tent forums to say if the wind gets up put it up to 12psi so I did well I can say I have never been so at ease in very high winds and very heavy rain no leeks or water in the tent only problem we had found was I did double peg front of the tent but when the wind does get up you need to peg down the front zips themselves as the wind does get them to move up when it blows at the front of the tent wind was forcing the door in, we were pitched front end on to the coast anything for the view but we have camped many times in bad weather and do not think I would go back to a tent with poles when the wind hits an air tent the tent does not seems to flap it just moves with the gust and then goes back to the position it was pitched at. The tent it’s self for the two of us is perfect we have the curtain in the bed room rolled up to make one room we use a Intex blow up bed and still have the small bed room at the side to keep the porta potty in and the thing I like is when you get a wet day you can sit in the front of the tent with it zipped up to watch the world go by and when the sun comes out zip the front back to have a wonderful covered canopy to sit in and now down to pitch time with the electric pump we can get the tent out of the car and fully pitched and ourselves sat down with a drink in hand in forty five mins that’s carpets down and bed blown up then the next hour is spent with the other half rearranging it all but yes this tent is heavy to carry from house to car and back to spare bedroom when we get home but have you carried a soaking wet canvas tent around we have all got used to tent’s in two bags tent and poles and we have a Kampa Croyde 6 and have not had any thoughts to use this tent after we used the Filey for the first time it is a pity the Kampa no longer make tents in this style and the stay dark bedrooms that kampa used in this tent are wonderful don’t think we could go back to the old style ones and yes every time we have packed up tent goes back in to the bag with room to spare

Just had our first use of our Filey 5 Air.

Overall pleased with it, having sold our Outwell Oakland XL to fund this purchase I was hoping I hadn't made an error.

Certainly easier to pitch with my wife and daughter able to begin sorting out the inside of the tent within 15 mins.

We like the room this tent gives, the extra small bedroom useful as storage, the extra width over the Oakland is noticable and the attached awning is great, however not having a SIG on the awning makes this a bit of a faff to attach - I'm sure we'll get used to it.

Taking it down was very easy, a lady in a caravan next to us remarked how quick it was.

But here's why it only gets a 6, day one we had rain and I noticed a small leak in front of the bedrooms and pinpointed it to a central beam, thought possibly condensation but when it happened on day 2 found the problem.

I have spoken to Caseys where I purchased the tent and have opted to try sealing this initially (they are sending the sealer) as that is initially what Kampa would do. For the money I expect the tent to have been properly sealed.

Also as others have mentioned the zips do snag more than you'd expect.

So overall a good tent, easy to pitch and pack away. But it is heavy and large, takes up half of the boot on my estate.

Just spent our first 3 nights in our new Kampa Filey Air 5. Im a disabled man and can offer very little assistance to my wife setting up etc.

My wife had the tent up in under 10 mins.

The pegs were all in, the car was unpacked, the airbeds blown up, the kettle was on all within 1 hour 10 mins.Brilliant and her first time.

We are a family of 4 and found the tent offered plenty of space.

I would highly recommend the tent. And we are looking forward to next weekend for our next hassle free adventure.

This review is based on the second tent. The first tent was bought from Winfield's Outdoors at Garforth near Leeds. I attempted to practice pitch the 1st tent at home, but found a small hole in the ground sheet. I rang Winfield's at 3:50pm on a Sunday afternoon and explained my problem. They rang me back on Monday morning at 09:40 and told me they had arranged a new tent to be at there showroom on Wednesday. ( going to Beach Croft farm Fri ) I collected the tent, and on Friday lunch time set forth to Derbyshire. I was worried that not having time to practice pitch and the problems with the first tent, but the tent went up easy-peasy. The quality of the tent is good, but we found issues with the zips on the canopy door catching on the cover, but with practice managed to overcome this.

The weather this weekend was crap in parts but fantastic at times. On the Saturday we 5-6 hours of sustained heavy rain. The only leak, in rain that could be called torrential was a few drips from the beam running along the tent in the porch area. The wind did get up at this time but the tent hardly moved and was very quiet with little or no rustling.

All in all a good first trip with our new tent, I marked it down to an 8/10 because of the first tent problems and the slight drips in the porch in very heavy rain. Would I buy another / is it value for money ??? Yes

Where to start, what a disaster this tent has been. We purchased our Filey 5 in September 2013 and went away for 1 night.All well and good. The tent does inflate in minutes but as another reviewer has said, it still takes about 90 minutes to peg down and get ready to live in, so no great time saving over that of an ordinary tent.

Fast forward to April 2014 and we decided to test the tent in the garden before our next trip and thank heavens we did! Every valve on every pole had split. This was apparently a known issue with certain batches and the retailer was excellent and replaced all the valves.

We then went away in the May half term only to discover that the tent leaked EVERYWHERE. It rained for a couple of days and water was literally running in and down each and every pole. In the end we had to abandon the tent and stay in our friend's tent for the night until we could get the ferry back to Dover.

Again, can't fault the retailer, who have been excellent and given us a credit note for the full amount. But won't be buying Kampa again.

The Kampa Filey 5 Air is absolutely perfect for: (a) families with small children, (b) people who can't or don't want to spend 40 minutes putting up a large tunnel tent, but who still want the inside space, and (c) people who really like a quality tent that goes up like a dream, looks good and will stay up in even vile weather.

We bought the Kampa Filey 5 Air because we have 3 small children and we didn't want them to have to spend another hour sitting in the car whilst we got the tent up at the end of the journey to our holiday campsite. Having looked at the Outwells and the Vangos, we went for the Filey for one 'nice' reason and one 'naughty' reason. Nice reason was so that our little girl could have her own bedroom, with her brothers sharing another one. Naughty reason was that we needed a tent in which we could cook dinner in poor weather.

The Filey bedroom set up is great for kids camping. One child gets their own room and there's another double for two more, or a big storage space for clothes. Then the parents also get a double for themselves.

The main living area is big enough to play in or sit in, if it's cold and then there's the porch. In other tents, this would be an awning that you had to pay another Ł700 for, but on the Filey it's included, joined on (no gaps or leaks) and fully separated from the main tent by a zipped door. Which means you can close off the main living area, open up the front door and cook in the shelter of the porch.

We also used the porch for mucky shoes, wet clothes and wetsuits and damp coats - keeping the living area and bedrooms clean, dry and tidy.

Niggles are: the tie-backs are not elasticated and are quite easy to break/snap because of this. The porch does not have curtains, although to be honest, we didn't need it to have curtains as the living area is completely private. The zips, especially the main front door, snag fairly easily - if you use the cord attached to the zip and open/close them slowly, this problem is minimised.

We particularly liked: the exceptionally quick 'one-stop' set up time (one pump point blows up the whole tent and it really does go up in less than 10 minutes, including placing the footprint and 4-corner pegging). One adult can put up the whole thing on their own (the other taking the kids off to the playground). The front porch is a superb addition to the tent. The living area is airy (lots of vents and mesh windows) and the bedrooms are (relatively for a tent) nice and dark.

The added touches of two cable entry points, zip-out room dividers and included-as-standard storage pockets make this a super family tent.

On our first trip, we had torrential rain, thunder and force-5 winds. Not a problem for the Filey! It also dried quickly once the sun came out.

I would like to mention that the tent itself in its bag weights around 35kg and it is huge. We have a Sharan, and it takes up about 1/3 of the boot space. Check this will suit your car set-up before buying!

Overall this is a pretty well-designed and useful tent. We were told it could be erected in 10 minutes! You CAN inflate it in a few minutes but the pegging out and fitting of the groundsheet in the front area takes a lot longer. We have only used it twice but from getting it out of the bag to unpacking the kettle is nearer 2 hours so far.

The inner tent gets very warm but has some good ventilation. It is cosy and the bedrooms are dark so you don't get woken at dawn! There is quite a problem with condensation, it can pool in the inner roof and pour down at times. The outer porch does not have curtains, and the front doors can only be opened from the bottom up. This is a shame as being able to open the top of the doors just a little would help with condensation here too. The small mesh windows between the inner and outer rooms are a nice touch - we left these open most of the time. The pockets on the wall between the two larger bedroom are extremely useful - I couldn't see the point of them until I actually used the tent, but they are a very sensible addition. I like the fact the bedrooms can be accessed from one another which makes the space very flexible.

A problem we have with the tent is the size of it when being moved or stored. It is huge! It fits easily into the supplied bag but is very heavy, and we are having to buy a new car as it takes up so much room.

Overall this is a large and cosy tent. For a family, or for people like us who want plenty of living space, it is excellent (as long as you have somewhere to store it over the winter).
