Serves a number of functions and well worth the cost in my opinion.
Can be fully opened to retain the canopy function but with slightly extended sides for more wind/rain protection.
A great shaded, open area on hot sunny days.
Provides streamlining for the front of the tent if the wind picks up and avoids having to remove the awning/canopy in very heavy winds. Effectively diverts wind up and over tent.
Door opens on opposite side to tent door so provides good airflow on windy days without too much draft in the tent. Ie wind does not blow directly into the tent.
Provides a really useful 'porch' function for removing shoes, boots, wet clothes etc out of the rain whilst keeping the main tent dry at all times.
Great for drying wet clothes/coats etc.
Nice big windows for that 'conservatory' function. Full curtains for privacy if required.
Can seat about 6. Great for watching the world go by (and storms!)
Great storage space at night for all the wet stuff! Balls, bats, fishing rods, etc.
A good space to sit and have a few drinks watching the world go by while the kids go to sleep. The Filey lounge is big so the vestibule is a good distance from the sleeping area. (For those with smaller kids).
Good quality materials and alloy poles.
A little tricky to fit first time but once mastered is easy peasy. Ours came off at the top on the first big gust but when properly adjusted (tightened up)it never came off again and stood up to some heavy gales on the west coast of Scotland.
Front guys need to be rolled up and the vestibule material replaces the guy function. I was not really happy with this and felt that a guy out the front should have been retained for extra strength. It is possible to use the existing front guy inside the vestibule (which we did when gales came) but extra length would give better peace of mind. Saying that, it stood up to gales as it was.
All in all I would say that this is a very useful (and for us essential) piece of kit. Well designed, strong and well made. My only gripe is the loss of front guy but it is possible to improvise.

The vestibule has pros & cons.
On the plus side it creates stability for the porch area when windy. It is also a great way of creating an extra room. You could easily put in a small pup tent within the space it creates as an extra bedroom.
The lack of instructions made it complex to fix, but the reviews on here have explained it all!
I also noticed we stopped using our lovely porch as a porch, as it became the area we kept the BBQ and washing line. But that's our own fault really!
Yes we thought it was pricey, but the key is that you don't have to take the porch down in high winds. A little more aero dynamic shape protects the entire tent.

We bought the vestibule to give us more options as to how to use the tent and its already vast living accommodation, as well as to enable us to store our pushchair overnight without it having to either go in the boot of the car or have wet, muddy wheels spoiling the nice carpet! I do think it's a lot of money for what it is, but it is very useful and I would recommend buying it.
As others have mentioned, it doesn't come with instructions, but the instructions can be found on the Kampa website, we downloaded them and tried following them when we put the vestibule up. You take the guys from the front pole of the porch out of the pegs and allow that pole to gently fall back onto the tent door. This means that you don't have to be 7ft to fit it! However, the next step we didn't find so clear, so, just in case there are others making our mistake out there, we were just trying to hook the elastic bit over the pole. In actual fact there is a black sheath that looks as though you should put a pole through it, this contains the yellow straps that you have to tighten and it is this black sheath that you are supposed to hook over the pole! Once we sussed that, it went up really easily and stayed up!
It doesn't really give a huge amount of extra space but as I say, it does mean that you have another shelter from the elements should you need it - we kept our kitchen in there and on our last night put the table in there as it was a little too breezy for me to eat 'outside'. Overall very happy with it.

We bought this to use the second time we were using our tent, apart from no instructions and not knowing how to fit it till we read pwatsons review (thank you)once we had read how to do it we managed quite easily and were impressed at the extra bit of room it gave us (which we used as a kitchen area) Also stood up well to 2 very windy nights. Only downside to us was we kept tripping over joints in groundsheets - not a major issue as may tape them together next time.

Bought the Filey 6 after reading glowing reviews but be warned it is not as it seems. The stitching on the tent was poor with fraying ends and our bedroom compartment snapped from the clips within 10 minutes of putting it up. This left holes in the bedroom compartments with the clips still in the roof of the tent and our bedroom sagging down having the straps ripped out of the seams. Our children were a little over excited and fell on one side of the bedroom but this has not happened with previous tents and given that it is a family tent was surprised that a one year old child could have resulted in the main clips completely coming out of the seams.
The sleep tight system however is excellent and we really noticed the benefit. However a standard double mattress would not fit into any of the bedrooms. It would sit in the one compartment but resulted in the compartment tearing on the seam as the bed stretched the material.
We were extremely disappointed as we had thought that the tent would make a brilliant family tent but the bedrooms are too small and we have concerns over the stitching of the tent.

Used the vestibule for the first time on the Bank Holiday just gone, what a difference it makes to the Filey6. We tried it up at home prior to going away and fitted it without a problem (well the OH did most of it good job he's tall!) I found the instructions on the Kampa website after we had fitted it which were really clear and have good illustrations but saying that when we arrived at the campsite and tried to fit it Kampa's way it didn't work for us, it kept popping off the porch. We reverted back to the way we fitted it initially - OH went on the inside of the vestibule in the middle and held it in place whilst pushing it forward,tightened the straps on the side and it held a good fit.
We had winds whilst we were away but it didn't seem to move at all. At first our thoughts were the same as the other comments, why put the door on the opposite side to the tent door? but after using it it was obvious. You can have the door of the vestibule half open and also the door of the tent half open and you do not get the wind blowing through. The space it creates is great I have now moved my kitchen into the vestibule which has given more room in the living area.
The ground sheet that comes with the vestibule is the size of the vestibule, thought it might be a bit of a tripping hazard to have two small ground sheets so purchased a Royale ground sheet which covers the whole of the porch and vestibule area. I will try and post a photo (not very technical) I would recommend the extra to anyone it makes such a difference - Love my tent!

Just back from our first camp with our new 2009 Filey 6 (review to follow) and the new vestibule.
The vestibule makes a great addition to an already versatile tent and (especially with the front door of the Filey rolled back) makes the tent seem huge. It comes with an additional groundsheet (which we didn't use) to cover the extra area gained and has a large door which can be fully opened and rolled back to regain the porch.
Cons - Seems a bit pricey (at £90) and it would be better if the door opened the other way ie the fixed part was on the right as it is with the tent. We put it up to create some shade as we'd put the 3 way fridge under the porch but having the opening side the opposite way to the main tent meant that you create a 'dog leg'to go in and out of, with less dead space as a result. Another minor gripe is that it's fiddly to put on, hampered by no instructions!
Tips:
1. Take a small stepladder (really!) - We have one for getting stuff of a roofbox and it was invaluable when putting the vestibule up!
2. Don't try to use *any* of the existing porch guys - The vestibule and its guys replace them
3. Make sure it's hooked well over the front of the porch and do the tension band that clips to the rings at either end of the porch pole up tight - It's this that 'joins' the vestibule to the tent and transfers the load.
Look forward to seeing how it performs in wind and rain (???) - Our first camp was on the hottest, least windy, weekend of the year so far :)
