8 Reviews of the Hayling 4 Air

By: Campervamp  Reason: I own(ed) one  Made in: 2017   Rating:

I bought this because lots of reviews said how easy it is to pitch even by one person and I got the vestibule doorway to expand the space. As I have to pitch by myself I thought this was it and bought it. It is reasonably easy to pitch but because of the weight it isn't *really* easy - well-designed pole tents are easier. Putting it away is a nightmare in spite of the helpful on-line videos from a certain Norfolk campshop. Whilst the bag is oversized when you buy it and can accomodate a non-professional roll-up, it is then a third as big as when I bought it. It doesn't matter how many different ways I've folded it, sat on it, jumped on it, it's massive. Then, because it's massive it's almost impossible to move about at 23kg. When it's up it's a good tent, although the vestibule has big windows and no curtains so no privacy. Also, the vestibule only zips on from about half way up the wall so it's draughty. The fold down flap/doorstep between the vestibule and the middle bit doesn't completely zip up so there are some creepy crawlies that get in - I've never had a tent like that. All in all, I feel like I have a white elephant and wish I'd never bought it. It got 6 because it's good when it's up and it is a quality tent compared with others but I'd really give it 2 because I can't move it around. And as I say, I wish I'd never bought it.

Newbie campers of a certain age! (not youngsters). Wanted a tent that was easy to erect and provide plenty of space for two people - one of whom has arthritis. The tent went up really easily and quickly only using the hand pump provided with the tent. Quick pitch guying system is really good. Repacking tent is slightly more taxing, but if you roll twice everything goes back in the bag. We removed the bedroom pod as our camp beds (Outwell Posadas) made it a tight fit front to back, so basically not enough depth for us.

We also have the vestibule and this does increase the space quite nicely. Considering purchasing another canopy for the front just for a little extra room as we now have one very large bedroom! A small consideration is the electric entry points are directly into the 'main room' and could do with an entry to the canopy area.

Really glad we bought this tent.

Bought this tent to replace our Vango icarus 500, which we've had for years.

Used it last weekend for the first time.

Massively impressed with how quick and easy it was to put up, and really impressed with the build quality.

We also bought the vestibule too.

This simply zipped on very easily.

Can't wait to use again.

So pleased with the brand 'kampa' that we ordered a self inflating mattress by them. Equally impressed .

This is a great tent. They have updated the inflation points I think. You have to make sure they are tight enough or they deflate over time. I got an electric pump which makes it easy to inflate. I deflated a bit with an ordinary inflater/deflater don't know if it helped but I got it small enough to fit in the boot! There was a brisk wind when I got it down and I managed it on my own so I'm happy. I'm going to buy a vestibule too. I recommend the tent.

What a fantastic bit of kit. I got the whole thing erected in less than 10 minutes, then another 10 to 15 minutes to peg out all the guy lines. This was by myself as wifey was still at work and was coming to join me later. I used the manual double action pump that came with it and its a doddle. You can buy the the electric pump but in my opinion this is a waste of money. It is a four berth but I feel with four people in it could be a bit cramped. Not a problem for us as it's just the 2 of us plus dog using it. The bedroom compartment is large enough to fit a queen size high airbed with a lot of room either side. The living compartment is spacious and light but once you have your camp kitchen in, again four people will fit in there but not leave a lot of room. The canopy is a great touch and we will be buying the optional cover for this, just because it will add a measure of privacy for using the canopy as storage. Also with the cover on and the large front door this then would give four people a lot more room to sit around inside if required. My only real gripe is the front door does not have a fly screen with it. The huge side door does so you can get a lot of ventilation in there but I feel if the front door had one fitted too you would benefit from any breeze blowing through without inviting a load of bugs to come in as well. Putting it down is easy. It deflates fully and fast. We then fold it over from the side towards the air valves rather than from front to back. Then fold it over from the front canopy towards the back of the tent. The bedroom compartment is left in place. Easy with one person, very easy with two. There is enough room in its bag for the tent, footprint, canopy poles and pegs and the pump. It is large and awkward mind, it fills up half my Vauxhall Vectra boot as an idea how big it is when folded. Overall I would recommend this tent to anyone with no hesitation. Oh and it was a bargain for me as I found a customer returned one and paid £200 less than rrp. Apart from one of the hooks that hold the bedroom compartment up it was in perfect condition. This has absolutely no bearing on my review of the tent, I just wanted to brag.

Just bought this tent as an upgrade for our old Vango Icarus 500. There's only myself, hubby and the dog and wanted something of a similar size. This tent has the added advantage of having a canopy built in, another reason we chose it, as we normally had to take our canopy to cook in. They appear to have come down in price and we only paid £550. We used it for the first time last weekend.

We struggled at first to seewhere we pump it up, and then realised ther is a small zip at the bottom of the tube. We started at the back and it took literally less than 2 mins to pump up one tube. We moved forward, shaping the tubes as they inflated. It was really fast. In fact it took longer to inflate our large, high airbed.

The weather wasn't great and quite scrawly winds but it didn't move. After a night of continious rain we had tiny puddles at the base of each tube, on one side of the tent although we couldn't feel any damp patches.

After looking around we think it might be our fault. We used the footprint for the tent and on the side that was leaking, the footprint was showing by about 4 inches.

We think that maybe the rain had got between the groundsheet and the tent. We won't know for sure until next time.

The canopy was great, enough room for our cooking table and 2 comfy camping chairs.

The tent deflated in seconds and there didn't seem to be any trapped air.

Folding the tent up was a bit of a nightmare. We have always rolled from the bedroom forward, but this leaves the canopy on the outside of the 'roll' and open to get dirty. It was also, as expected a lot bigger 'roll' than when we had started, but the bag allowed plenty of extra room, although we couldn't get the pump in as well.

I'm sure we will get better with practice.

On the whole a brilliant tent and I am very pleased with it.

Just thought I would finally update my initial review of this tent, as it finally had its maiden voyage this weekend. I am very impressed with the tent, I bought the vestibule for the front which encloses the front section and really increases the space available. The first night we endured a very bad thunderstorm, with high winds and torrential rain. The tent stood up very well, hardly moved and no water leaks. The erection and putting away was very easy - we purchased a 12v specific pump for these inflatable tents, which are special in the fact that they put a lot of air in first and then they put the pressure in, which is around 8 psi for this tent. This meant that it was very quick and easy to get this tent up - very impressed

I have only erected this tent in the garden, however I found no issues with the tent, and found it easy to erect on my own - which is the main reason for buying an inflatable tent.

I did struggle to get this tent back in the bag - Its in - but only just - this may be easier after its full proper test which I intend doing in the next weeks - so will update after I have spent a few nights in it !

Manufacturer's Description

Sleeping up to four, the Hayling 4 AIR offers a large living area and a great view out through the panoramic windows a large living area and a great view out through the panoramic windows.

Now even quicker to set up with the Kampa AirFrame replacing conventional fibreglass poles, the Hayling AIR is great for long or short stays and is ideal for touring, but is also comfortable for longer stays because of the generous headroom and high specification that the tent offers.

The built in front canopy protects the front of the tent from inclement weather but when it’s sunny the large stable door can be opened and the side panel can be rolled up to let the fresh air in. This side door also has a secondary mesh panel to allow a breeze through but keeps out those pesky bugs. The tent has a fully sewn in groundsheet and the inner tent is divided by a curtain that can be rolled away if not required. An organiser in the front wall of the inner tent completes this superb package.

An optional vestibule is also available.
