We decided to buy a poly cotton tent after viewing them on a hot summers day, the Holkham was just so much cooler than all the others.
Heavy and bulky it is but if you've got the space to store and transport it it's well worth the added weight and price as it's cool in the heat and warm and dry in the cold. No condensation or waking up feeling clammy and the darkened sleeping area is a real great idea and it does actually work.
Pitching is easiest with the middle pole first and all doors and windows open method and there is an excellent youtube video with the more or less identical Filey 6. Easy once you get the hang of it - can be done alone but it helps to have a helper ( a 9 year old will easily do).
We've got a vestibule and it is initially hard to work out how to fit it and it's a bit fiddly but it really helps in the wet and as it's polyester really highlights why poly cotton is the only way forward for the main tent.
Apart from that there is massive living space for the English weather, it's nice and bright inside and after 3 years of 2xyearly use there has not been any material failures.
The annexe is a great multifunctional space.
Little gripes are that the sleeping compartments could be a foot longer and as well the design of the windows with the mosquito net at the top is not great as it makes heating the space with the windows uncovered impossible so I'm sticking masking tape over the mosquito net then which is not really working that well.
That's the only reason why it's a 9 for me, actually I've just changed my mind as it's still worthy of a ten as I'm super happy with this tent and highly recommend it.

Ten out of ten definitely for me, does everything I wanted and more.
So a brief word on how and why I came to own this tent:
Last year I went through a number of used tents trying to get exactly the one I wanted. I started with a Vango Icarus 600, then a Coleman Mackenzie 8, before moving onto an Outwell Montanna 6, until finally owning this tent.
Although all the other tents I owned and used were good, they always left me wanting for something.
When I finally got hold of the Holkham 6 It was in a different leaque to the other tents I had used. Everything about it has a quality feel, the poly-cotton making a huge difference to staying cool on hot days and warm on cool evenings with having the added bonus of reducing noise levels from the outside in and vice versa.
The dark bedrooms help give a great night sleep and is something that I don't understand why more manufactures do not do.
The tent is easy to erect and once up is very stable, especially with the ceiling pole in.
Inside the room is ample being slightly wider than many tents and very high, the little side annex giving a great place to store everything in leaving the living space free from clutter which is a great idea.
The built in canopy is a godsend and cooking in inclement weather is made possible.
The windows and front doors have a multitude of variations to allow cool air in, and bugs out.
With the tent I bought came the vestibule, although at first this was not the easiest to put up, with practice it became easier, and adds more room than you would think, well worth having.
All in all this tent has left me not wanting anything more, so is the reason I have given it 10 stars.
If you can get hold of one of these at a reasonable price you will not be dissapointed and its made in the UK too :).

What a shame Kampa stopped making tents in polycotton as the Holkham and its successor the Filey 6 Classic are quality products. The Holkham is basically the Filey 6 albeit with the flysheet made out of polycotton. If you havent tried a polycotton tent then you really should as they are so much nicer than polyester tents. Cooler when its warm outside and warmer when its cool, nearly silent in the wind and condensation is a thing of the past.
The only downside with these and other polycotton tents is the pack size is big and heavy.
Ok so now ive finished spouting the virtues of polycotton how does the Holkham stack up??? Well pitching is pretty straightforward, poles are metal, strung together in one piece and if you start with the middle pole can be pitched by one person using the 'Cross Camping Method' although its much easier with two. Weve changed the metal skewer type tent pegs for 'Delta Ground Anchors' on the guylines
Walking in through the large front door into the spacious interior we see a single bedpod also in polycotton with a central zipped divider providing 2 rooms. The little side pod with zipped door is a nice addition providing extra storage or room for a toilet. The single side door has a large window and full length flymesh. The 2 side windows are 'zip out' so can be plastic, mesh or removed completely, the front windows have mesh but no plastic, all have zip up curtains.
One of the real selling points on these tents is the built in front canopy which provides somewhere under cover to cook or simply sit and watch the world go by. A front Vestibule is/was available to enclose the front off completely albeit in a polyester material rather than polycotton which was a bit of a shame.We found in use the vestibule benefited from an extra central guyline to hold the front of the tent taut, see my photos.
So if your on the lookout for a polycotton tent and the Holkham comes up at the right price buy it you wont be disappointed.

Thought I'd add some pics and comments in case anyone is looking to buy this second hand.
We love this tent as it offers so much space both in bedrooms and living area. It is lovely and warm in evenings and nice and cool during the day, due to polycotton and colours. The sleeptight system is brilliant, stays nice and dark in bedroom pods whilst bright in the living space.
The vestibule is great on longer trips as just means kitchen and shoes and what not can all be kept enclosed.
I'd give it a 10 but its just so big and heavy to store and transport we are looking to buy a smaller weekend tent.
Gets lots of tent envy on sites ;)
Use the Gary Cross method to erect and its a doddle to do, just the pegging out takes time.

We love this tent. Its our first and feels secure and dry when you are in it and its huge, lots of space.
Its only faults are: its really heavy and you need more than 2 adults to put it up, because of the weight.
We always have a spare pole! as complete novices we couldn't find its place. Didn't need it though, the tent stayed up :)
Its also very tight when the material is stretched over the poles. But again could be our lack of experience.
We also bought the vestibule which is really useful with the British weather. Its awkward to fit because it keeps slipping off. So we used bulldog clips to hold it on.You need 3

Having taken the decision to sell our caravan due to the cost of storage, servicing etc we decided to use the money from the sale to buy the things that would make camping comfortable, including the right tent. We decided on polycotton but on paper couldn't decide between the Outwell Bear Lake & the Kampa, until we saw how useless the Bear Lake canopy was as it lacks sides. After seeing similar Kampa tents at Camping on Tyne near Newcastle we decided it was the tent for us & certainly haven't been disappointed.
We purchased the Kampa footprint & really don't know why it has got such bad press. We found the quality to be fine, it was properly sewn all the way around so won't fray & has proper rings so that you can peg it down easily. I suspect Kampa have improved the quality after seeing the feedback from customers. We didn't purchase the Kampa carpet as felt the Outwell carpets were slightly more superior so we purchased the Outwell imagine carpet with fits perfectly & makes it really snug.
My hubby is 6'4 so wanted lots of head room & this tent is huge with lots of room & a great white panel along the living area roof which keeps the tent light & airy. I was worried about waking up at 4am as in previous tents the sleeping pods have been so bright & warm but the dark material really keeps the sleeping areas dark & cool allowing us to sleep in till after 8. We slept on an Intex queen sized 2 in 1 raised airbed which fit the sleeping pod perfectly & meant we could use the other sleeping pod to house our kampa 'wendy' wardrobe & as a dressing area.
We used the side extension for our Royal deluxe toilet which worked perfectly. We use an electric hob so had so worrys about cooking inside & with all the mesh areas this allows good ventilation. We love that the two front windows are only mesh rather than PVC as the mesh gave a clearer view out & even when it rained, the porch canopy protects this area so we didn't have any water penetrate the living space.
The tent is so well designed & thought out that it really makes camping a joy. We were able to sit under the canopy & enjoy a glass of wine whilst being protected from the wind, something I couldn't imagine doing in the Outwell BL. We purchased the matching Kampa windbreak which is good quality and provides a little bit more privacy. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this Manufacturer & tent, so much so that we can't wait to go away again.

It's a pity we can't score 9.5 out of 10, as a full point removed for tiny little niggles seems mean!
My husband and I decided last year that we would take up camping. We bought a Coleman Modulus X4. It is a great tent, but after a seaon we realised that we wanted all that it had to offer and just a little bit more - in particular a nice big integrated porch area. So this year we decided to upgrade.
After spending hours online and visiting tent outlets, we decided that the Kampa Holkham was the only tent for us. We liked the Croyde, but when we saw the extra room on the Filey and the Holkham, we just knew that we 'needed' it!
Then came the dilemma - both the Filey and the Holkham have the same layout, so the crunch was the flysheet. After some more research, the polycotton won. As we plan to take the tent to Europe for holidays, the extra cost of the breathable polycotton seemed a worthwhile investment - in spite of the extra weight.
We contacted a number of online suppliers last weekend to get the best price for this tent. We just couldn't handle paying top price this week and seeing a huge end of sale reduction next week!
Many suppliers are priced around £659 to £699 but Camprite Leisure Ltd in Colchester offered it at £549 for collection, or £599 delivered.
Our new Holkham arrived on Tuesday and we used it on a pre-booked two night camping trip this weekend.
It poured with rain on Friday Night/Saturday morning, so it was well tested for water proofing. Absolutely no problems.
The tent itself is a delight, lovely and bright with the windows coverings unzipped. We zipped out the removable windows to test them out. While these are a great feature, we quickly zipped them back in on this occasion due to the wasps!
We also purchased the carpet which is a lovely addition and makes the whole camping experience so much more comfortable.
After reading many lacklustre reviews about the footprint, we decided against purchasing it and took our own tarpaulin which worked well.
We loved the size of the living area and the side room which was much larger than we expected. The porch was perfect, enclosed on the sides and much larger than those offered by other manufacturers.
We unzipped the divider between the two bedrooms and enjoyed the space - it was nice to get up in the morning, walk about and get dressed before leaving the bedroom. However, one small niggle is that there is a raised area on the floor at the dividing wall between the two pods. Perhaps we are missing something and it can be levelled, but I was concerned that having the bed over this could cause tearing. It also meant that we couldn't set the bed up in the middle of the room to create space on both sides.
Another minor gripe is that the top of the groundsheet in the porch area was absolutely saturated following the rain. This was as a result of the groundsheet being wider than the porch area, so without protection from the elements, the rain ran in from the outside to the area under the porch. This is easily fixed and we'll simply fold it in next time to ensure it doesn't happen again.
These couple of niggles, along with some less than perfect stitching did nothing to reduce our absolute delight with our new tent, and we look forward to a long weekend in it next weekend before heading further afield for our holidays next year.

I don't really have a huge amount to add to the thoroughly comprehensive review above but I have to second all of those positive comments - we used to have an Outwell Hartford and this tent is fantastic in comparison!
We weren't initially looking at polycotton tents, but after having had a look in one at a tent display we were very impressed with how much cooler it was than the polyester tents on a warm spring day. Having camped now in temperatures of about 2 degrees C in early May and recently about 25 degrees C, I have to say that I'm very very glad that we chose it and very impressed with how much more comfortable it makes the tent. Well worth the extra investment over the polyester - no more 'boiling in the bag' on warm mornings!
The pretty much vertical sides of the tent make it feel so spacious and give a lot more practical space than we experienced in our old tent. We also use the side annexe as a kitchen area, lovely to be able to have all that stuff tidied away. We have a picnic style table which fits inside easily and still leaves plenty of room.
We're not going to be buying the vestibule, there's so much room inside that we don't feel that we need it. The front canopy is lovely on a sunny day for providing shade and we're happy with it as it is.
We haven't quite perfected our pitching technique after only 3 trips - takes about an hour but we're getting quicker :). Putting the tent away is an absolute doddle. The polycotton dries really quickly and was pretty much dry to put away at about 10 am after an overnight drenching. A few hours airing in the garden and it was perfect. As the previous reviewer said, the oversized bag is a real bonus and makes packing the tent away very easy.
I didn't buy the carpet, and while the footprint is adequate it could have done with being sealed or seamed around the edge as I'm not sure how long it's going to last without fraying.

Having decided to buy a Polycotton tent last year there was one question that kept popping up. Outwell Bear Lake 6 or Wolf Lake 5? I really thought that when it came to Polycotton, Outwell was the way to go; just a couple of things stopped me from buying. I loved the size of the Bear Lake but felt it was really let down by the lack of sides on the front canopy. On the other hand the wolf lake was a little on the small side for our needs (2 adult and 2 small children). After months of pondering I stumbled across the Kampa Holkham 6. I took a chance and bought it straight away without seeing it pitched. The dimensions were spot on and it had a fully enclosed front canopy and at £599 was some £300 cheaper than the Outwell alternatives.
I have just got back from our first weekend camping (Easter in the Lakes) and I can definitely say I was not taking a chance when I bought this tent. I had previously owned an Outwell Nebraska XL which in its own right was a fantastic tent, yet the Holkham 6 knocks spots off it.
I’ll start with pitching. It took my wife and I about 1 hour to pitch including pegging out. There are 5 main pole sections which are all the same, so no chance of putting the wrong pole in the wrong sleeve. The main poles are made from Dynalite which is incredibly light and strong. There is a smaller 3 section pole for the side annexe and 2 small poles for the window screens all of which go together very easily.
Once erected the tent is huge. I’m 6’ 4” and the headroom in this thing is unbelievable. The living area is bright thanks to the lighter overhead material. On the flip side the bedroom area remains dark even when the sun comes up early in the morning thanks to the dark blue overhead panel and dark Polycotton bedroom inner. The living area is immense and feels bigger due to the side and front panels being vertical. The small side annexe is a useful addition and can be used for a number of things (We used it as a kitchen area).
The bedroom is set out as a 3 + 3 with a zipped room divider. We used it as one large bedroom which easily takes 2 airbeds and a camping wardrobe.
The front canopy does its job well and provides a great space for siting out alfresco and cooking on the barbeque. It does tend to let in water in bad weather, so I will be purchasing the vestibule which means it can be fully enclosed.
One of the reasons I bought a new tent was because the old one leaked. The Holkham 6 was given a stern test in this area thanks to some very heavy downpours over the Easter weekend. I could find no sign of any leaks (believe me, I looked). It still remains to be tested during a full day and nights heavy rain (Roll on summer!)
The temperature on one of the nights dipped below freezing and my wife actually (for the first time ever) complained about being too warm, so the Holkham again scores highly in this area. It was also nice to wake up in the morning and not have any condensation inside the tent.
Packing the tent away is very easy due to the oversized bag.
The only slight problem I have with the Holkham is the quality of the accessories. I purchased the footprint groundsheet and living area carpet and neither is a patch on the Outwell ones, which I owned previously. I would advise to find a similar sized Outwell version and go with that, if you can live with it not being the same colour.
In summary, the Holkham 6 is a fabulous family tent and after only one use I think I am going to love it.

Probably the finest six berth tent available today. The Holkham 6 looks striking from the outside and provides the most comfortable living space inside. The flysheet is manufactured using our Weathershield® Airflow Classic Poly-Cotton. As well as being extremely weather resistant this fabric is also breathable allowing the tent to breath, reducing condensation and interior temperatures in hot weather yet it is warm in cool weather.
The Holkham 6 is very comfortable to live in; as well as the advantages of the fabric, the tent has a Daylight Panel, opening windows and also benefits from a full built-in canopy and a side door with full fly-screen. The bedroom is also made in poly-cotton and can be separated into two rooms with the dividing curtain and a large floor to roof organiser gives loads of storage for knick-knacks. The living area has an adjacent ensuite toilet or storage area and the whole front panel can be rolled back to give access to the large built-in canopy area.
