Purchased this tent in June to replace my ageing Coleman and to increase capacity to accomodate myself, two Grandaughters and our dog.The tent is a 5 berth with a three and a two berth bedroom separated by a centre curtain which can be easily removed if required. The living area is of a good size and the whole tent allows standing room. Colour scheme is very good and the whole tent looks the part.It is very well made and withstood torrential rain recently that lasted for 24 hours ! In addition, it is easy to erect and has some nice features. It is very airy and has plenty of windows and mesh curtain options as well as plenty of storage compartments. The large front door can be put up to create a porch. We have also added a porch extension to it (used as a kitchen) as well as a footprint and carpet which makes it even more cosy along with the tents sewn in groundsheet. All in all I can't fault it and I am very pleased with my new addition.

We were looking to downsize our tent to one which fits on our back lawn. This does just that. The tent was poorly made compared with our Outwell and Vango. The sealed seams weren't smooth and looked like they would lift with use of the tent. One of the poles were split and the toggles on the curtains were ripped when we did the check pitch in the garden. So we returned it having owned it for 3 days. The shop assistant wasn't going to give a refund quoting tents are exempt from bla bla bla, SALES OF GOODS ACT does not exempt tents, so after some strong words off my husband who deals with the sales of goods act in his job, the manager was called and full refund given. Shame that the service in the shop has swayed us from ever returning to purchase further camping equipment. The 5 out of 10 is for the good size and cheapness of the tent and nothing else.

After looking at various similar and similarly priced tents from Vango, Sunncamp and others I decided on the Kampa Oxwich 5 based mainly on the reviews of other Kampa tents. I wanted a tent that we could easily stand up in.

We spent five days in the tent and although we didn't have much rain it did cope perfectly and I suspect it could take much more. Erection was pretty straightforward once we'd got the first pole in; being brand new it took a bit of effort. We bought the optional footprint groundsheet which made laying it out much easier. Once up, pegging it out was simple but the supplied pegs were of the usual poor quality, bending at the slightest provocation.

The inner bedroom pod goes in really easily thanks to colour coded tags. There was plenty of room for the three of us with a double and single mattress and loads of spare room for bags etc. You could probably squeeze in another double mattress but there wouldn't be any space left. Importantly, at 6ft, I was able to stand up. There are 3 pockets either side of the bedroom for valuables, torches etc.

The living area is a decent size and plenty big enough for the three of us to sit in on camping chairs. I'm sure you could seat 5 or so if you didn't have as much clutter as us. I could stand up with even more headroom in this section. The bedroom section has 5 or 6 pockets on the outside for valuables. There are 2 small windows either side of the main door and one large one opposite the side door, all with convenient curtains that tuck neatly into pockets below. There are two well protected cable entry points, on on either side. The side door has a mesh screen and a little roof on the outside to protect from rain. The front door has no mesh screen but the poles and guys to prop it open are supplied.

Ventilation seems pretty good with a large well covered flap at the back and two smaller ones at the front.

I would definitely recommend this tent based on our first and only stay in it. After a few more stays I'll have a better idea but I think it will stand up well. All in all it seems to be a well designed and well put-together tent. I'll consider Kampa products near the top of my list if I'm ever in the market for a new tent again.

Pros:

You can stand up in both the bedroom and the living area.

Outer first erection.

Simple 3 pole tunnel design, all poles the same.

Seems to be very well constructed, on a par with our Outwell.

The little 'roof' over the side door helps keep the rain out when getting in or out.

Bathtub style groundsheet, seals you in nicely.

Colour coded clips make hanging the inner bedroom simple

Zipped divider between the two bedroom areas.

Loads of pockets on and in the inner bedroom pod.

Although we only had a little rain it held up perfectly and I'd imagine the design could cope with much heavier weather easily.

Cons:

Some problems getting the first pole into the little 'keys' at the base. This I suspect was due to the fact it was brand new and hasn't had time to stretch at all.

The sills of the groundsheet and inner are quite easy to trip over but I guess that's the price you pay for proper waterproofing.

Crap pegs.
