5 Reviews of the Perran 4
By: HEJC72 Reason: I own(ed) one Made in: 2010 Rating:
I bough this tent new and unused for the bargain price of £40 off a popular auction site as I wanted a new tent for solo camping.
This was really easy to put up on my own and once I had opened the door to allow air in, lifting the poles into position was a doddle (I am only 5' 1' tall and rather overweight and unfit but I managed!) It took me 30 minutes to pitch, attach bedroom inner, guy out, put carpets down and move my belongings in.
As others have mentioned, the front of the tent under the window does sag - the tiny bits of Velcro put there by Kampa are inadequate but fortunately I had good weather whilst away so it wasn't too much of an issue. I intend to add more Velcro before its next outing.
This front door with blind can be canopied out (King poles are included) but this door has no mesh fly net. The side door, however, does so I tended to use this door, leaving the mesh closed to allow some fresh air into the tent, whilst keeping the bugs out!
The bedroom pod was very easy to attach and has a clip in each corner to help keep it in place - much better than the hook and eye arrangements in some of my other tents which always seem to come apart. The bedroom is spacious with excellent head height throughout but I think it would be very cosy for 4! I would say this tent is ideal for 1 or 2 adults, or 2 adults and a small child.
The living area was large enough to accommodate my chair, table and storage unit.
When taking the tent down, I left the bedroom pod attached to speed up pitching in the future. It was easy to re-pack the tent and poles back in its bag first time.
Overall I was very impressed with this tent and it would have scored 10/10 if Kampa had been more generous with the Velcro to solve a problem that shouldn't have been there in the first place!

This is a fab tent for us. We have had a small leak in the same place as others mentioned but now I know what to do!
We have found that the big front door is great except that the bottom part (underneath the window if you see what I mean) sags a little so it doesn't stand straight but we solve that by putting our storage boxes there.
We pack it away all in one (ie don't remove the inner tent) its much easier/quicker to put up if its all in one. There is plenty of room for a double airbed and clothes etc in the bedroom.
All in all a very good tent with lots of room for all your bits and pieces (we sat in the front bit when it rained the other weekend and there was room for us on 2 chairs and all our other bits).

I bought this tent as I wanted to be able to put it up alone. It has a great front window and second doorway with mesh.I put velcro along the bottom of front doorway as I felt it was far too open.I found I couldn't put it up alone and needed someone inside to lift it as fabric is heavy.Would love to know how previous reviews did it.We did have 30 mile an hour gusts and unfortunately this pushed the front of the tent in and turned the poles inward so had to take it down and replace with filey 6 with its metal poles.I thinks it's a great tent for two but not in bad weather.I will probably review it again in the spring.

I have just tested out my new Perran4 in the extreme weather that the Lake District offers, and was not disappointed. Even in torrential rain everything stayed bone dry except for a small drip or two in exactly the same place as the other review - and once again was solved simply by removing the brow pole to stop water coming through the ventilation mesh. I like space when camping on my own - this tent is great for that - I managed to put it up on my own (I'm 5ft 6) and had no problems at all. I love this tent!

A very good 4 man tent would sleep four(we had 2 adults and 3 small children in to try it in the garden practice pitch) on foam mats but airbeds fits 1 single and 1 double (we did have 2 doubles in to see and they squashed up and the person on end got tipped in lol).
We had lots of rain and it was fine apart from the mesh bit above big front door we had some leak through there (not much - less than 1/4 cup at a guess) but solved this problem the second night by taking the small bar that holds a bit of fabric over it up out and no rain got in.
The side door has mesh but not the front although that door has a lovely big window.
We didnt like the small bits of velcro that held down the front doors flap at bottom as it let a cold breeze through at night but a bigger strip of velcro across will stop this problem.
Pitching was fairly easy even for us novices and the fact you can put ehu leads through either side (there is a zip section) is fab too.
All in all a really good tent and if you can pick them up cheaper than rrp you will have a real bargain (we paid £75 inc carpet and footprint all brand new)
