1 Reviews of the Rarotonga FTT 601 TC
By: Crabby2009 Reason: I own(ed) one Made in: 2021 Rating:
We absolutely LOVE our new tent! Dometic have used higher pressure air beams so that they can make as much useable space as possible from the footprint - the sides are effectively vertical.
The pitching and packing is very simple, requiring just one person (but obvs a second pair of hands is always nice :p). The tent holds itself very well indeed - I didn't realise until after the second pack up that there's a 'spine' air beam above the bedrooms that helps with the extra large section for example and the rear most beam has a different shape that helps 'widen' the bedroom inner.
The storage space behind the bedrooms is huge and keeps the main area really tidy. The windows are incredibly clear and it's a great touch to have a full window in the main door. I love the toggles, they're really tactile!
The ventilation is fantastic, with vents above and below the side windows - though it's worth noting that because the skirt at the front and back of the bedroom effectively seals it off if you want the massive vents at the back to help cool the main area you'll want to open up the back of the bedroom and mesh the fronts. The hanging points are little carabiners and all of the cable ties are poppers!
Have had the tent up in a bit of rain and wind. It copes with wind very well indeed, but we noted a single pool of water after an exceptional drenching the the storage space at the back - looks like it's a slightly large sewing hole so I'll fix that up easily.
So. Issues! Firstly, there's the price - it's expensive and honestly I don't think we'd have got one if it wasn't a gift. Secondly, they could have done better with the porch - only one electric entry point on the right hand side and no vents in the tops or bottoms of the windows which means effectively zero ventilation when/if we add the vestibule to the front.
But honestly, I feel like we're clutching at straws here - the tent really is great and here's hoping it lasts us a long time!
