4 Reviews of the Studland 8 Air Pro

By: Timboh81  Reason: I own(ed) one  Made in: 2016   Rating:

Where to begin. Decided to invest in a decent tent that would last us 7+ years so we got the studland 8 Air. Easy to put up loads off space great. But fist two week holiday in the UK we had a couple of days of rain and the seams all leaked leaving big pools of water at the bottom of each air section and under the sleeping compartment. It turns out we should have set the tent up at home and made it wet to make it seal.

Second two week holiday the next year in the UK went without a hitch.

Third holdiday a 2 meter rip appeared on the front section next to a window so after blaming the kids whilst folding tent away we noticed another rip in roof.

Turns out the tent has uv,d already meaning it can't be repaired and the material has basically gone like paper. Kampa have said it not coverd under their warranty and nothing they can do.

So we have a knackered 3 year old tent that cost over £1300 or to put ut another way we have had 6 weeks of camping from it of which only two have been successful.

Should have spent half as much and got hi gear would have lasted the same time.

After a number of years of camping with a HiGear Mojave 5, both with and without the porch, I splashed out on this Studland.

Was looking for the air beams, extra space and the polycotton and got all in this.

Was hoping to get a couple of light showers to weather the tent to make sure it was waterproof as do not have the room at home.

What actually happened was an overnight of heavy rain so was expecting some leaks . 4 small drops under the front door area and wet zips on the top windows was all that was met with.

There are downsides to it . Mainly the weight of it and have to make sure all the air is out of beams to be able to get it back in bag and zipped up.

Could be improved in a couple of small things . The door between the main tent and porch could have a mesh option and there should be a route for cables for the flexilight system to go between the main section and the porch area.

After so many disappointments, I threw caution to the wind and said to the wife that I didn’t care that it was going to cost over 2K to get all the bits and the tent etc, because it was the one I saw at the beginning of our tent hunt and I loved the porch for cooking in. This tent is absolutely brilliant, easy to put up and put away, and we love it!

Absolutely love this tent. It is so versatile. You can have it all open, or sectioned off. The vents are great. We were worried about the window vents, as we couldn't see how you could have them open without the rain coming in, but you can have them open a few inches. We did have a bit of leakage where the air poles are, but we were told about that. We had an horrendous storm and had only a little pool of water. Nothing got wet. I am glad we waited for the 2017 model. They have made little amendments to previous years models. Pitching is so easy, taking down is so easy. The bag it comes in is enormous. There is so much room in this tent. The only thing we had trouble with was putting the air in the poles. The hand pumps don't really give a good reading of the pressure so were are going to get an electric one that shuts off at the right pressure. Just to re-cap, the storm we had was quite bad, this tent never moved.
