3 Reviews of the Vervat Holland 4

This is an update to my earlier review, having now had some serious use out of it; so I won't reiterate specifications etc here.

The tent was used as a base for a 4 night canoe trip for 2 adults.

As such it has plenty of room with the 'lounge' area as it were, front of house, providing storage, cooking or relaxing space in inclement weather. We added a 10T 4X4 metre polycotton tarp on the front, as in the photos above. The combination of this and the tent provided a huge amount of space. The inner tent is provided by 2 zippable hanging doors without wasting roof height with separate complete inner tents.

The tent was incredibly quick and easy to erect, probably about 15 minutes on my own, and on this occasion when pitched, it was quite windy, and when pitched back to the wind, it was quiet and secure.

I had no issues at all with the wind. We also experienced some heavy thundery summer showers, and again, the tent was perfectly water tight.

If I had any gripe, it would be that the tent is not fitted with any mesh ventilation panels in the back of the tent, which could make it a bit stuffy, as you can't get a breeze through. It has a large mesh window in the front, but needs a small one in the back wall, perhaps.

Being made for Vervat by Esvo, perhaps it is down specc'd in this regard. There is nothing 'down spec'. In the quality of manufacture though.

All in all a very simple, practical, robust, quality Dutch pyramid tent, in the traditional (whatever that is?) style. Stood up impeccably to both wind and rain.

Bought this secondhand from the very helpful chap from Facebook. I think it may be around 15 or so years old.

Another example of the dutch pyramid style tent, made by ESVO for Vervat. Made from 300g/m TenCate canvas with a full sewn in groundsheet in a heavy PVC material. Instead of a separate inner tent , it utilises inner doors sewn directly into the tent. These can be rolled and tied back to open up the whole tent. We find they give us more bedroom space than a separate bedroom inner would.

This tent comes with a large integral awning/porch that is fantastic in the sun, but we do have to be mindful when pitching of wind direction.

The front has a zip around front door and window with a removable funky 70s style curtain (not to everyone's taste, but we love it), and one big mesh window and canvas cover. The entrance does not have a mesh doorway.

Plenty of room for two adults, or a small family, this is currently our go-to tent for camping trips.

Date manufactured unknown, the date given is a pure guess, as bought secondhand.

This is a Dutch pyramid style or Storm tent, made by ESVO for Vervat. It is a cotton (TenCate at 280g/m) with a full sewn in groundsheet in a heavy plasticised material. Instead of a separate inner tent , it utilises inner doors sewn directly into the tent. These can be rolled and tied back to open up the whole tent.

This particular example is beige with green walls, which are very low, giving the back of the tent, at least, good wind shearing capabilities. It does restrict the useable floor space a bit in the sleeping area though: this is a common feature of the Dutch pyramid tents.

The tent is supported by a stout single central pole and an adjustable 'n' shaped frame around the doorway, and the whole thing can be set up in less than 1/2 hour on one's own, even on 1st attempt!

The whole size, 4 metres deep and 3.2 metres wide, gives sleeping room for 2 adults and 2 children, with a sensible living space in the front of the tent. It is around 2 metres high. The front has a zip around front door and one big plasticised window with curtain, and one big mesh window and canvas cover. The entrance does not have a mesh doorway.

As are most of these Dutch tents, it is well made, cut well, so it sets well. A very comfortable tent for 2, or a young family of 4?

Photos to follow.
