5 Reviews of the Boston 500
By: Logburner Reason: I own(ed) one Made in: 2014 Rating:
We bought this tent because we liked its airy atmosphere and amount of light it let in, everywhere has a window view. The built-in porch means you can have the door open in showery weather without problem, and the flat door entrance means there is no trip hazard. The side door does have a raised groundsheet entrance though.
Downsides, the door is exceedingly tight to close, no matter how we pitched it, it is tight! And that is saying something as we have been campers for 40 years and own many different tents, but this door beats them all for tightness! Of course it had to happen and on the 3rd outing the stitching finally gave up and now its easy to close! It is now destined for a return repair or replace. We also have subjected it to a brisk wind from one side, which had some strong gusts, this wind went on for over a day, with some heavy rain. The bedroom vent let some water in, but not enough to notice until we packed up some days later. The main concern was the second cross pole had it's stitching go for about the first 10 cm. Again this is destined for repair or replace. This is by far the worst storm resistant tent we have ever owned! Maybe the force 8 gale review earlier had the luck of a head or back wind, which would be the most structurally stable for wind resistance. I would recommend a sheltered position for pitching this tent or use a different tent if storms are forecast.
All in all though brilliant interior design - poor stitching and poor side wind resistance.

We have now used this tent for the past year, including a three-week trip to the West Coast of Ireland in which we experienced gale force 8 winds. Not once has it leaked, and we have only just had our first break, which is a split on one of the tent poles - these however are cheap and easy to replace.
There are only two of us, but we decided to go for the larger size because of our long trips and being able to fit a camping kitchen indoors. I am so pleased we did - and here's why:
- The bedroom area is versatile and can be separated into two 'rooms'. As there's two of us we use the whole space, and unlike many tents where there's an option to zip a partition through the middle, this one doesn't have any zip on the bottom which means you're not pulling on material if you put an airbed over the top of the middle join.
- There's loads of room for a big airbed and two small cases in the bedroom. You could easily fit four people although I do think five might be a bit of a squish.
- The 'pockets' on the outside of the bedroom area are extremely handy for all the bits and bobs you end up keeping there - toothbrushes, matches, suncream.
- The living area is massive which means lots of room to store your chairs away and still be able to make a cup of tea in the morning before going out into the damp, plus plenty of room to have a 'muddy space' for wellies and trainers that doesn't get into the rest of the tent.
- It has a side entrance as well as a front entrance, which means you can set up a camp kitchen inside the tent and ventilate whilst cooking by opening the side. This is perfect for long stays.
- The two of us have managed to get putting the tent up down to 12 minutes. It's really really really easy - four poles, around 20 or so pegs and you're there.
- It hasn't ever leaked. Not even in a gale force 8 storm. Amazing.
However, the absolute best bit ever is the canopy at the front. It stays in place with the aid of only one guy rope and is the best thing EVER, especially when it's raining - you can still sit comfortably in your chairs outside under the canopy with a fire near and be perfectly dry.
This is honestly the best tent I've ever purchased, and I've been a prolific camper for the last 20 years. Would highly recommend.

As a first time camping couple with a two year old, I did a lot of research online before deciding on the EasyCamp Boston 500 for our family. The main draw for me was the full height almost throughout the tent, and the living area which is most necessary with a 2 year old if it rains!
I was very pleased with my choice of tent - it's very easy to put up and take down. My husband and I can put up the tent very quickly, with no issues for us of doors or openings being too tight or any other difficulties. It even fit back into the bag with ease, something which I was not expecting!
The bedroom pod easily accommodates a travel cot and a double mattress, but I wouldn't really want any more in there, I'd say 2 adults and 2 children would be maximum comfort, although we do have a lot of stuff to accommodate with a toddler in tow.
The living area is great, again to store bits and bobs, but also to keep the bedroom bit sealed off in the day and keep out the bugs.
Haven't had any experience of it in the rain yet (touch wood!) but am very happy with our experiences so far.
Would definitely recommend as a nice family tent!

We decided that we needed a bigger tent to fit us and all our stuff in and after careful deliberation we decided on the Boston 500. We really liked the idea of the panoramic windows all round and the large bedrooms. However, when we got ours (we bought online) we found that the tent was actually different from the ones in the photos on all the websites (including this one!). It has a side door ( comes with canopy poles) which does not have a window, as well as the front door - neither of them with fly screens. Although this doesn't really detract from the tent, we were a bit disappointed. I will try and upload some photos to show the difference.(or try the Easy Camp website)
We found it quite easy to set up, although a bit fiddly to hold all the poles upright before setting it out. But following the video guide it was really simple. Taking back down it was just as simple - handy for us as I am 7 months pregnant! Found that it was easy to tighten the guy ropes too much which caused problems with the zips, but just loosening them slightly sorted that.
It has ample space in the bedroom areas for a double airbed, travel cot and all the stuff you need when camping with a toddler! the seating area was a good size too and the little sun canopy at the front kept some of the rain out of the front door (as long as the wind didnt change!)
However, having said all that, we did end up taking the tent back due to 2 small tears in the tent - one on the back wall and one on the groundsheet. One of the clips on the inner tent for the bedroom also came out of the seam. Not sure if this was just a one off, but we were disappointed with the quality of this particular one. Just waiting for our money back as we might look at other similar size/priced tents.
Would recommend it, it was a good tent, didnt leak and stood up to the wind and rain of Edinburgh!

Just bought and used this tent for first time for 3 nights.
Easy to put up, didn't leak ( heavy rain). Large bedroom area.
Only problem we had was trying to get the door to zip up as the guy ropes were too tight and we had to slacken them off a lot so the door would zip back round.
Maybe it was us that hadn't put it up right but we have camped for several years.
I wanted the Boston 600 but OH said we were to down size we owned Colemans Saltlake 9 man b4 so we went for the 500.
OH now states we should of gone for the bigger size and now wants to buy the extension but it doesn't have sides on,only like a gazebo. Knew I should of just bought the bigger one !
All in all a good sturdy tent, stood up to wind and rain ( 24 hrs) good sized bedroom just need more living room area. 2 adults , 1 child , 1 dog
