2 Reviews of the Baltimore 300
By: Fernman Reason: I own(ed) one Made in: 2011 Rating:
Having now used our Baltimore 300 for some long weekends, I feel able to add my opinion.
At 5ft 11in tall I can stand up straight in the centre of the living area, and almost straight in the front of the sleeping area.
It IS possible to erect the tent single handed. The tricky bits are (1) threading the poles through the sleeves, which tend to ruck up without another person to smooth them out as you go, (2) the poles tend to come apart at the joins as you put them through, especially if you pull rather than push; again it's easier with a 2nd person; you soon learn to push them through the way round where they're less likely to come apart, (3) bending the poles and putting the ends on the pins is awkward on your own but not impossible; you have to do one side then run round and do the other side, (4) pulling at the front of the tent to raise the poles and then pegging the corners down is not easy on your own; try pegging the rear corners before raising the poles.
Overall, though, the tent is a bit on the small side for two adults for anything more than weekend use. Two airbeds will only fit across the bedroom, and not front-to-back, leaving a gap of only about 8 inches between them and less than 2 feet at the end for your clothing holdalls or whatever. This and the position of the C-shaped zipped bedroom door makes stepping inside a delicate operation, while it is also annoyingly high from floor level, ready to trip you when you forget.
Similarly, the porch or living area could do with being a bit bigger. With the front closed in wet/cold weather, it is on the verge of being cramped when you are sitting on your folding chairs with a cooking stand to one side; you will certainly need to have your table folded up.
With its built-in groundsheet we certainly found the tent cosy and draughtproof, but perhaps its best use would be in warm and dry Mediterranean regions where you spend most of your time living outside it.
In conclusion, I'm a bit dubious about a forthcoming fortnight in Scotland which might end in us being at each other's throats, but I'm really looking forward to when I can use the tent on my own, for which it will be ideal in spite of putting it up single handed.

I bought this tent as it is one of the few I found that is high enough to allow me to stand up straight in the front section without the overall tent size being too large. It was also well priced and I got it off the internet for £99 inc del. On first inspection the tent looks to be well made and surprisingly for this price has a 3000hh rating.
Although advertised as 3 man that would be a bit too cosy especially in the sleeping area but ideal for one or two. The front section is spacious enough to live in if the weather is bad and the big windows help the feeling of not being too cooped up. Ideally it takes two to pitch the tent but it wasn't too difficult on my own albeit in only breezy conditions. It survived windy conditions overnight with no problem and no leaks when medium/heavy rain followed .Did initially get a little water coming in where front entrance and groundsheet meet but that stopped when I pegged the centre bottom of the door further out by a few inches. Not sure that was part of the original design but it worked.V.Fine anti mozzy mesh across sleeping area door is a needed plus but a shame not one for main entrance but maybe that is asking too much at this price.
So overall passed back garden test with flying colours and I am looking forward to seeing how it performs for real.
