8 Reviews of the Etesian 4
By: Jane16 Reason: I own(ed) one Made in: 2013 Rating:
I have used my etesian tent since 2013 several times each year (including two weeks, every year, in the alps) I have found it to be reliable and it has stood up to some proper gales. It does sometimes let water through in the porch but I find if I have a good groundsheet underneath this reduces it. I can put it up on my own too very easily. So far - no complaints!

Here's an update on my Etesian 4. I returned the tent to Wild Country/Terra Nova and although they took it for inspection, they couldn't have been less helpful. I asked for a refund or replacement, and their best offer was to try and sell me a replacement pole at a very slightly reduced price whilst insisting that they couldn't find a leak. When I refused their offer and referred to consumer legislation, they suggested I return the tent to the store I bought it from. This I did, and Ultimate Outdoors were the polar opposite of Wild Country - a full refund (on a gift card because of the length of time since purchase) and amazement that the tent had failed given it's billing as a quality tent with alloy poles etc. 10 stars for Ultimate Outdoors, 0 stars for Wild Country. My advice would be to avoid this tent and Wild Country (though their super expensive tents look tasty.), and I will now carry some Jubilee clips in my camping kit, as they came in very handy when completing a temporary fix on the broken pole. I'm now looking at a couple of Vangos as possible replacements.

I bought an Etesian 4 two years ago as I wanted a tent with plenty of room for three people which I could stand up in, and this fitted the bill. The things that really swung it were it's light weight and how easy it was to put up and take down. We used it a few times in fair weather and were really impressed and ready to recommend it far and wide.But.A few weeks ago, on a moderately windy and wet Welsh campsite one of the poles failed and I experienced the leaks other reviewers refer to. I managed to bodge a temporary repair to the splintered pole but my confidence in the tent was severely dented and I'm currently arranging a return to Wild Country. I'll update this when I know the outcome.

Yet another update. Replacement tent has at 2nd time of using in mild wet weather conditions leaked up through the groundsheet leaving puddles where the table and chair legs were and damp patch underneath anything left on the floor in the porch area.
Windows also in holes again. This is apparently not uncommon as we have spoken to other owners of tent who have had the same problem, we even saw one with the windows repaired with gaffer tape. Lost patience with this tent and have requested refund.
Sorry can no longer recommend this tent.

Adding more info to previous review. Now on my 4th replacement due to leaking groundsheet in both sleeping and porch area.
All seemed ok until removal of air bed, when we found that water had penetrated the fabric, soaking underside.
Also any item such as a pair of trainers left on porch floor got wet patched underneath. We had put this down to morning condensation until we saw underneath of airbed.
Tent was returned to wild country and replaced yet again with no argument.
Just hoping that we have been very unlucky with this particular tent as I am beginning to lose faith in the brand.

A real Tardis of tents. Lightweight, small pack size but extremely spacious when erected. Originally bought for use on a motorbike because of its pack weight and size, but have also used it when we were in the car. The sleeping area easily takes a double air bed, with a bit of space either side to have your unpacked clothing. I wouldn't recommend this as a 4 person tent, 3 at a push, but more suited to 2 people if using an air bed. The living area is large (enough space to have 2 large dogs and their beds, as well as leaving a decent sized area in which to move around), and has a zip open floor area, so you can get undressed (in privacy) out of wet/muddy clothing without getting the floor area dirty or wet. This zipped area could also be used as a cooking area.

Very spacious tent which is ideal if you need to keep weight to minimum 'we use it for motorcycle camping'.
Just be aware that these tents have to be treated gently.
I am personally on my third tent the first had to be returned due to stitching coming undone in the porch area.
The 2nd had a problem with the T junction on the centre pole which fell apart (this was replaced by the manufacturer). One of the Windows then perished and appeared that it was delaminating. The tent was replaced by the manufacturer once again.
In summary not very tough but have good back up from the makers.

The Design of this tent is excellent. It's lightweight, high enough to stand up in, easy and quick to erect, small pack size and spacious for storing belongings.
Used on 2 week motorbike tour and it was perfect. Although the quality is good we had to return for exchange as there were marks on the inside.Came with 2 year warranty so not an issue.
