5 Reviews of the Cairns 3

Nice and easy to pitch, with everything fitting together perfectly (including the flysheet!). The pegs are, as already said, thin steel, but I had no issues getting them in with no bending. The inner 'nightfall' part does it's job well cutting out the light. Porch is more than sufficent for storing boots etc. In and has 2 windows to let the light in, which is nice. The only minor improvements I would suggest is some blinds for the windows and an extra peg loop on each side at the halfway point.
All in all a great little tent at a very reasonable price

This is only the second tent that I have owed ( the other was a metal pole frame ) so have had no experience in putting this type up and taking down but found it easy even in the wind.
As others have said the pegs are far to thin to hammer in even into soft ground and the condensation was a real issue as our bedding got wet when against the tent wall.
The biggest problem was the zip on the fly sheet it jammed EVERY single time we used it.

Bought the Cairns from Millets for a bargain price £25 reduced from £79 so very happy with price.
Is a 3 berth but comfortably fits x 2 adults and x2 children for overnight camping on long walks -which was reason for purchase.
We used it at Weymouth last week on a very wind swept site and although a little concerned re poles being bent as wind was extremely strong, it was very waterproof and survived well and poles weren't damaged at all - unlike some larger tents. Could have done with stronger pegs but think that more related to extreme weather and not design issue.
Fits into a small bag and not too heavy, very quick to put up - the kids can do it in about 10 minutes.
Ideal for a festival / kids to use in back garden as well as an extra tent for the kids for a long camping holiday. More space than other models we considered and much better value for money. Would recommend.

A tent that looks good on paper and performs reasonably but. There is no way that fly sheet fits the inner. Having said that, its easy enough to put up after you accept its not going to be perfect. It keeps you dry. Handled some strongish winds well. For 2 of us car camping it was fine, dog unimpressed with the porch area though.

When I bought this tent over a year ago the RRP was £79.99. I paid £30, so at the time I thought this was excellent value for money. I'd used Eurohike tents since the age of 8, going on countless trips with youth organisations. I couldn't have had more trust in the brand. Unfortunately I was left disappointed and wary of Eurohike and the store that sold it to me. I suppose you get what you pay for, despite its inflated RRP!
Upon test-pitching it, I noticed that the fly didn't quite fit over the inner. I'm a bit rusty so thought I'd made a mistake & it would be ok on the day. I didn't bother with the pegs at the time.
When we eventually took it out last month, it took about 35 mins to pitch between the 2 of us. The pin-pole system didn't work too well as the pins were very loose and kept coming out of place.
The fly still didn't quite fit, and even our best efforts left the tent looking very shapeless!
The supplied pegs kept bending when struck by the mallet. Luckily I'd brought some spares which I had bought from the poundshop. These were of better quality and held their positions just fine.
Once pitched, the inside was adequate for purpose. You could fit 3 people inside, but it would be a tight squeeze with your kit as well! We fitted a coleman double airbed in, but were touching the walls all night. A lot of condensation had built up overnight, and by the morning the tent was so hot and wet. This surprised me as the tent is meant to be highly breathable!
The porch on this tent was ok, just roomy enough to light a small hexi-stove in front. We ended up putting a large golf umbrella next to the tent and used it as an additional shelter (it did a better job!).
We also found that the zips kept jamming, and the porch lacked symmetry.
I've given this 3 plus points because the tent was very waterproof (apart from the condensation), windproof and lightweight.
Unfortunately we couldn't put up with the discomfort so cut our trip short after just 2 nights.
All in all, it's an adequate overnight shelter for the price, and probably best off for use on hiking or solo trips. Just buy better pegs, keep the tent ventilated and don't expect it to be pitch perfect!
