4 Reviews of the Tamar

Thought it was about time I left a review for this little tent. I bought one last year for £40 at Blacks Outdoor, which is about what I paid for my first one about thirty years ago!
I think this is the third one I've owned, I wrecked one, think I gave one away and have again added it to my camping cupboard. It is a great little 3 season tent and I use mine for camping in the garden when we get these heatwave days, it is so quick and easy to pop up at a moment's notice. Nice colours (I have the dark green one), and surprisingly well made for the price. What I REALLY like is that it always sits nice and square and is no trouble at all to pitch and put away again. Why I only use it for the garden I don't know. With a tarp to make a decent porch area to sit out under with table and chair, I think I could happily use this for an extended holiday. I did once take my first one away for a proper holiday but didn't have the tarp.
Tick VG for this little beauty, I've given it 10/10 because whilst it is small and doesn't have a porch, it never had pretensions in those areas, it is a simple, honest little tent that will keep the wind and rain off all day long. I'd recommend for garden camping, festivals, etc. No hesitation. Well done Eurohike.
P.S. It also smells nice! :)

These are still available on ebay as 'customer returns', in fact I found they are more like brand new but with (usually) minor defects, mine for example was the web strap which should have been between the front 2 poles, was sewn onto the left front and rear pole ground points by mistake. I got mine for £10. You can lighten it up by buying aluminium pegs or even those £land packs of 6 fibreglass ones. The only thing I don't like about it is that it is not double door type, ie it does not come with a flyscreen door as well as the outer material door, only a part flyscreen at the top of the inner single door - so you cant increase the airflow and keep insects out at the same time, nor see the 'vista' in front of the tent unless you, as it were let insects in.

I've used this tent many times in all weather's and for a week away for my dog and I it's is perfect, with two people and my rottweiler it's still big enough to sleep comfortably (I'm 6ft). The tent is very easy to erect and light enough to take backpacking. I've' woken up in the snow and didn't realise until I opened it up in the morning, equally it was hitting 80 degrees this week and it was cool enough to sleep on top of my sleeping bag. All in all its a great tent and can be bought for around 40-50 at the most. Happy camping

This tent is really easy to pitch on your own and has good head height so you can sit up and move
Around easily. You pitch the outer first, which is handy in the rain, or all in one, which is even handier, in less than 10 minutes. It's also a decent length so I can stretch out properly (I'm 5' 6')without touching the end of the tent. The mesh window keeps the midges out well. My tamar took a real battering in a west coast storm and didn't leak at all which I was very pleased with, and it stood up to the wind as well. The porch is a bit small, could be bigger, but big enough to keep boots etc in. Plenty room for one person plus kit or two who don't mind sleeping in close proximity. It also features handy wall pockets and a wee ring to hang a lantern from. It's not just a 'festival' tent, but actually a proper, double skinned tent for 'proper' campsite camping and I think with decent care and attention it'll last for years. It's maybe not for wild camping or hill-going backpackers, but for weekend or car campers it's excellent. It looks like Millets don't sell it anymore, but it was very similar to a Eurohike I bought about 15 years ago, so I imagine a brand new incarnation of a similar design is in the pipeline. It was sold as a good and simple tent for people new to camping and it does its job very well. I have a more expensive tent, but this wee tent is just such fun - I love it!
