10 Reviews of the Windsor
By: PAULC007 Reason: I own(ed) one Made in: 2009 Rating:
We have several tents, and I bought this on a whim as it was cheap and relatively light weight. We've used it about 6 or 7 times now and it has been reasonable, but as has been said before the quality of manufacture really leaves a bit to be desired. No matter how you try it doesn't quite get tight leading to pooling when the weather behaves in a British fashion! Not having a sewn in ground sheet also leads to rain ingress, and the wind blows through as well. The pods aren't really a great size but ok for a family of 4, and we also remove on pod to make storage. Because of these issues we really use it as a grab and go now, preferring our more substantial khyam for proper holidays.

The tent is OK but is not perhaps the best tent I've owned. One major drawback for this tent is the actual quality of the manufacture. Although it's survived quite a few bad storms the tent in the picture is not the one you pitch! After staying away from Eurohike tents due to the fact that they never seem to go up how they look in the picture, something is always sagging, or the guys just don't seem to be in the right place or my major bugbear is the fact that when you open the door the inner ground sheet no matter how carefully you open the door or try to shake all the rain off it always gets wet!. There is plenty of room for 2 adults and one child, we then use one of the pods for storage. The pods are adequate, but whoever is sleeping against the back away from the door is going to wake up every morning with a face full of tent inner! if this was occupied then living space would be limited. However for the money it's not that bad, but could also be a lot better at the same time. All in all if you're on a budget and it's your first time it's not too bad, but don't expect it to be amazing, I'd also recommend that you proof it first before use.

Bought on a whim when my girlfriend objected to sleeping in a 2 (1) man tent - It was great for two people. Took some of my children (3 out of 4) to Norfolk in the summer and pitched up in August - The tent survived well in a major storm that hit the UK though it did allow rainwater to flow into the central dome during the worst of it. Not the best quality of construction but happy with it having bought it for 80 pounds.

This year’s summer holidays were quickly upon us and, after having previously promised ourselves a size upgrade from our ageing but faithful Lichfield Special S Raven 240 3 Man Dome for the next camping trip (the allure of crawling into the low roof Raven on all fours like an intrepid explorer having given way with age to a desire for a little more (OK, I lie…a LOT more) comfort, the search was on! Furthermore, having somewhere liveable to retreat to in the typical British weather would be a distinct advantage, as the Raven was cramped for any activity other than sleeping.
Both Millets and Blacks were selling this tent for £83.99 (reduced from £209.99), but Blacks were offering a further 20% discount at checkout bringing the total to £67.19. We then used a 20% promotional redemption code found on bargainspy to pay just £53.75, not bad for a £210 tent! The tent was olive green in colour, something we were particularly pleased about, preferring as we do to blend into the countryside rather than to disrupt its beauty. We pretty much knew what to expect quality wise, as we also have a Eurohike 225TS 2 Man Dome which is still going strong after what must be over 10 years use.
The tent duly arrived, we had a couple of trial erections in the garden (ooh err missus), and with no problems encountered off we went camping.
The poles slide into continuous channels, which is a far better system than having partial channels, or loops and channels a some other tents do. The poles have plastic end caps, but we found some of ours a little loose, prone to coming on and getting lost, so we glued ours all on with PVA glue.
Pegs appear to be of reasonable quality, being made of 4.5mm diameter bright steel, probably stainless. 31 are needed if all guys ropes and porch canopy are used, 34 were supplied. Because our regular camping haunts have fairly stony ground, we ditched the standard pegs and replaced them all with ‘Rock Pegs’, basically a 6.5”/17cm nail with a T-bar welded across it like a crucifix, the whole lot then galvanised.
We timed a basic erection (no guy ropes) at about 35 minutes working at a leisurely pace.
Size wise the tent appears to have some qualities of the Tardis, it’s relatively modest footprint and height belying it’s capacious living area.
Main compartment has lantern hanging hook and Velcro tabs to secure wires for a mains lantern. Sleeping compartment also all have lantern hook each.
Width wise, the sleeping compartment inners are bit of a squeeze for our 137cm wide Eurohike double airbed, although I notice the similarly designed £330 Vango Colorado 600DLX has identically sized sleeping compartments.
Ventilation is good, our tent never felt stuffy or suffered with condensation, and we didn’t experience any nasty draughts. The flysheet has 8 vents in total and each sleeping compartment has two top corner vents plus main door mesh vent with closing panel.
I can’t overstate the difference this tent had made to our camping! You can’t underestimate the joy of being able to exit one’s sleeping bag and stand upright in the privacy of the main compartment to dress, wash, shave, or what have you. Then there’s the option of retreating to the main tent in objectionable wind or rain, perhaps pulling back the separate groundsheet to cook on the ground if needs be (only for responsible/experienced campers who know what they are doing and don’t have younger children and/or pets running around obviously). And yes, we had to do both, and I’m happy to report the tent neither leaked, nor suffered in quite a strong wind.

Cracking budget tent for family, bought for 83.99 from millets great value for money. Would love the bedrooms to be just a little longer to allow clothes to be stored at the end of beds. 2 Adults 3 horrors from 13 down to 4 and our 8 stone Rottie had a cracking first 3 day camping trip last week though the tent was great, only top tip take down the light during the day to save head.

We bought this tent as last week we were in a Wynnster Satellite 4, but it was on the tight side for our family of 3.
We paid £99.99, last Sunday, and on Saturday after we closed the business, we set off for Humshaugh.
When we arrived we started with the main poles.Hmmm, only one thick black for the main body of the tent. The three pods went up quickly and provide lots of room.
Had to telephone Millets today after we got back, the other punters on the site were laughing at our illogically shaped tent.
It kept us dry, but because of the shortage of a pole we had pools of water very visible on the roof. Looked awful but the water stayed on the outside.
Just got back and telephoned Millets and spoke to Dean, he had a look in the other bag (there was one camping set left), and guess what.
There were poles missing in that bag too.
Dean has been great and has embarked upon a quest for find the poles.
Obviously, the tent has a bit of a downer on our weekend, but hopefully next time with the correct, cornered poles.

This is our first tent and we were complete novices when choosing it. We love it - goes up and down easily and enough space for our needs, we only use two rooms and keep the other space for living but thats why we chose it because of the flexibility. Did leak all over the third time we used it - a year after first buying it, we have since been told we should reseal it every year but have never done it since and it's been fine (was disappointing to leak so soon.) We've had the tent up and down so many times and have just noticed one pole splitting so taped it up and one elastic is starting to fray so need to keep an eye on it. The gap to the ground does cause some draft but a separate groundsheet is easier for packing and cleaning.
We would recommend this tent.

I bought this tent for around £110, the colour is different from the current model. I think it is very good value for money and it didn't leak even though we had torrential rain. It is a bit drafty, but I was impressed with the size of the internal space. The poles are a little flimsy and I suspect they will split or snap without too much encouragement. All in all, I would say it offers value for money. The new model doesn't seem to have the option of the porch extension, when I purchased mine you could buy one for £50 - a bit steep considering what I had paid for the tent.

I bought this tent in a last minute frenzy, I have regretted it ever since. I have used this tent twice and been very disappointed both times. The tent is poorly manufactured - and very poorly designed. The Fly sheet (even with tensioners) does not go lower that 3 inches off the ground. So you can bet you will get a really breezy cold wind through the tent and will freeze your ankles and feet of at night. The bedrooms sag - not matter how you arrange the tent/peg it out or try to use the useless tensioners - you will wake up with a face/mouth full of bedroom wall. The condensation that gathers in the morning will pool into the floor, it's always nice to wake up to cold wet feet when going to the toilet - breathable fly sheet my eye.
On the whole I would recommend anyone to stay as far away from this tent as possible.

I bought this tent from Millets for £129 on special offer. We used it in the Peak District for 9 days in the wettest August in decades. I am pleased to say it did not leak. It has a 2000 hydro rating. The tent is made from a light material which was useful at night as it let more light in. There are plenty of florescent guide ropes which are useful at night. These kept the tent firmly on the ground in the wind. The ventilation was adequate and there are loops in the tent to hang lighter lights from. For the money this tent is great value if you are on a budget and it will keep you dry. I also topped up the outer tent with a Grangers fabric water proof spray. I had no leakage problems in any part of the tent. The outer tent goes up easy once you have located the door. I had it up and pegged in 30 minutes. Once you have done it once, it is easy to remember without instructions, which are usefully printed on white fabric sewn into the storage bag, so you will never loose them! The tent slept my family of 5 and will sleep 6. The middle area is spacious and big enough for a table and chairs, storage shelves and cooker stand. I would buy the same tent again on the same budget. I really liked it.
