3 Reviews of the FBA Bell Tent 3 Metre

By: MissElaineous  Reason: I own(ed) one  Made in: 2011   Rating:

My FBA Bell Tent is one of the earlier ones, and looking at some of the other photos on here and reading the last review, they seem to have made several improvements.

Mine does not have a mesh door panel and the A frame door poles go straight down, well, in an A shape. The new one looks taller too. My zipped in groundsheet is grey not cream to match the tent.

Other than that, I am very happy with my version. I got it cheap from eBay and I believe it was possibly a return. Some of the panels are different shades of cream and there is too much material in one panel so I can never get that part crease free. The groundsheet split at the bottom of the T zip, but this could be because of children sitting on the ZIG. I have had this split successfully repaired.

The tent itself is made from a good quality canvas but this has some sort of coating on the inside which affects it's breathability somewhat, but it is still more breathable than a polyester tent. Possibly the best of both worlds?

My review may sound a bit negative, but I actually do love this tent and am glad I bought it. I can put it up in 10 or 15 minutes and it is big enough for my daughter and me to sleep at the back of the pole on self-inflating mats, with room at the front for a couple of chairs. I can also stand up in the middle which is all I need. Have used it in all weathers and it has kept us dry and stood up to the wind. I call this tent 'Biscuit', short for broken biscuits, as it is not perfect but it works just as well.

Had my first trip in my 3m bell and loved it, it was easy to put up solo but I pulled the ground sheet very tight and the canvas over the zipped in groundsheet didn't sit flat so got a bit of a leak, but won't pull it so tight next time, also I didn't see the little pockets for the door A frame till I'd pegged it all out, so had the pole feet inside the tent.

I found it very spacious for one, its a bit of a tardis, bigger inside than it looks,.

The poles are now white, and the A frame is slightly different, with straight down legs so shouldn't get any slippage, and best of all its now got a fly screen door.

It comes with a humongous canvas bag with a heavy duty zip across the top and down one side, so easy to get the tent back in the bag, it also has heavy duty tent pegs and a lump hammer .

I really love the tent and think it is good value for money.

I used this tent on a very windy and sometimes wet weekend in Tenby in May 2013.

The manufacturers state this tent could take 3 single airbeds or two double mattresses but realistically if you are including your own luggage and bits and bobs I would say that this tent is more suited to a couple or single person use. I used this tent with my teenage daughter and as we had also booked electric hook-up so this along with our table with mini fridge, fan heater, music player and light we found it a litte cramped.

Pitching was straightforward but the ground at Kilm Park, Tenby was very stony and I coult not get the ZIG groundsheet how I wanted it and as a result when the rain came during the early hours we did have a little water come in at the corners but I was expecting this due to difficulty in getting pegs into the ground.

We had quite strong winds during this weekend and this is where the tent excelled as it stood firm and being canvas and bell tent shape the wind was less noisy than polyester fly sheets.

The canvas (290g /m2) is extremely thick and has been triple sewed and reinforced where need-be at the top for housing the pole and at guy rope points, around zips and edges. There are 3 half moon windows that you can unzip to let air circulate in the tent and the mosquito netting in-situ in the windows makes sure only air comes into the tent. Where the canvas meets the PVC groundsheet there is a zip going all around the base so can be detatched on a rare very hot day (unlikely I know in the UK!) you can unzip and detatch and roll up walls to let even more air in. If you are security conscious the three zips for the Apex entrance can be padlocked together if you are away from the tent for long periods. I didn't bother going that far as I would rather put valuables into a locked car.

The PVC (500g / m2) ground-sheet is far superior than any other tent that I have owned as it is pvc and coloured similar to the canvas (Sandy coloured).

The pole is galvanised steel and sections are spring-loaded and easy to assemble. There is a round loop part the way down pole so you can attach your lamp to it. There is also an A-frame pole which gives the tent an apex entrace at the front which gives the tent a bit more space and stops rain coming in if you are exiting or entering the tent during rain. This pole is also spring loaded and easy to assemble and there are little pockets sewn into ground sheet to take house the poles.

The pegs supplied with this tent are very strong and superior to standard pegs supplied with polyester tents. I have also bought some Ash pegs which will suit the guylines well.

I think the only criticism I have of this tent is that there is no mosquito mesh at entrance of the tent.

I am pleased with the tent but having been away with my teenage daughter (close proximity mood-swings!) and all her stuff I think I will use it on my own next time!

We have spent many years as a part of the camping scene and have visited many sites, festivals and events over the course of those years.

As a consequence we have noticed an emerging trend amongst people to own a tent that stands out from the crowd, nowhere is this more evident than at a festival where you could potentially be one amongst thousands.

A great traditional Bell tent, many people have found our durable cotton based tents match their needs.

A 3 metre bell tent will offer you that individuality as well as space, comfort and practicality.

When trying to create an atmosphere it is far easier when surrounded by natural fibers than by day-glow modern fabrics. Our product brings you the best of both worlds: beauty and comfort.
