1 Reviews of the Frohlich and Wolff Sansibar

By: Tentation  Reason: I've used one  Made in: 2001   Rating:

This tent is a beast - the canvas alone weighs almost 40kg, and there are three bags of steel poles to go with it. The fabric sits in a car seat of it's own, but is too fat to get a seatbelt around - it needs a bungee cord.

Getting it up is a two person job, but it isn't that hard, and once up it stays up. It's withstood days of 30mph-ish winds in Wales and a night of 45mph gusts in Cornwall.

Inside you can stand up in all of it, and the pop-out kitchen with vented window is great because you can cook when it's raining or windy :)

There is plenty of room inside for 8 people to sit around tables if you have the front wall in the furthest forward position. Move it back and you have a little semi open porch and there is still plenty of useable room inside.

When I have to fit it in the car or carry it up to the attic I can see why these sorts of tents went out of fashion, but when it's up and I remember how quiet it is compared to rustling nylon and how relatively cool in hot weather and warm in cool weather it is - as well as it having that bungalow roof that means you can stand up straight in all of it - I wouldn't have any other type of tent.
