9 Reviews of the Alaska 8

Love this tent! Bigger than we needed but so easy to put up, copes with rain and wind no problem. Dries quickly. Very flexible bedroom arrangements and plenty of space in the middle for cooking/living, even with all the bedrooms in. In bad weather have been able to open the end of it all the way up and have a party under the canopy!
It's cheap and cheerful and doesn't have great big windows or rain resistant bedrooms, but we don't miss those.

This tent has been the best purchase we've ever made, its in its 4th year and still going strong. Its been battered by a back lash of a hurricane last year in south Wales and flooding on its first use. This tent is indeed spacious, fitting many people with the big double bedrooms. Would high recommend this tent to anyone who has a family!

This tent is beyond rating. We camped in scotland and thought we got lucky with the weather, for all of 2 nights. On the 3rd night a weeks rain fell in 8hrs and even though the rain battered us we were bone dry and our 3 young boys aged 3, 5 and 9 at the time slept snuggly in there compartments. Can't imagine buying any other kind of tent and looking forward to another summer but staying in ireland. That should really put it to the test.

I can not rate this tent enough it is full head height all the way along no bending necks you can have all the bedrooms in giving you either 2 double and 1 pod to sleep 4 or you can put the divider in and have 4 double bedrooms. It comes with a ground sheet to cover the full length of the tent so you can just use 1 or 2 of the bedroom pods. For people who want sig gelert have brought out the Horizon 8 with sig but exactly the same tent.
It is easy to pitch and has stood up to all weathers. A handy tip for anyone buying one we watched kyhams pitching video for the Indiana 8 as this was the same tent and it is a good start. I would recommend this tent to anyone wanting this style we paid £150.00 for ours from Gelert

We paid around £170 for ours but what value for money this tent has turned out to be. Easy to assemble and to be honest the more we've used it the quicker we have got at putting this tent up. Very spacious providing loads of room for the kids stuff. We tend to use the 4 birth bedroom for me and my other half and the kids share a double bedroom, we use the other bedroom to store our clothes. The living area is spacious enough to sit around with friends having a chat whilst the kids play. Would definitely recommend this tent.

I bought this off Campmania's website in Nov 2007.I only paid £129 instead of the £250 list price for this large spacious tent. Despite being novice campers, it is quite easy to put up. (About 1.5 hours from putting it up,and arranging all the kit, to the well earned brew up).
The lack of a sewn in groundsheet (s.I.G.) is the only critisism. I use an extra groundsheet on the middle living area section, to help minimise possible invasion by creepy crawlies. The sleeping pods all have a s.I.G's however.
I use the excellent Delta ground anchors to tether the tent.So far I have had no real test weather wise, but I have applied extra seam sealent spray to the tent just in case. The 3000 static head water-proofed nylon however, is fine for the UK, I am told.
The one problem I have had so far is an elastic shock cord breaking in one of the poles. This was very easily fixed by using Gelert's replacement shock cord.(£6) (worth buying a spare pack just in case).
Overall, an excellent tent, recommended to all.

We bought this tent last year at a brilliant price of £160. There are only 2 of us but we wanted a resonable priced tent that we could stand up in, and as friends and family visit us whilst away for the odd couple of nights we wanted a tent big enough for that also, we also wanted a tent with plenty of room inside as the great british weather is rather unpredictable these days and this tent ticked all the right boxes. It was easy enough to put up with 2 of us doing it in about 1 hr, that was setting the beds, cooking facilities and everything! It has been windy and raining a couple of times and the tent stood up to the wind no problems and no leaks with the rain so we are very pleased. The only little thing was no SIG but that isn't the end of the world! All in all a fab tent for the money, we were not disappointed.

Great spacious tent - It can sleep 8, but we left out the 4 bedroom section and put our 3 lads into a double room - where there was bags of room.
We've used this tent in lots of different conditions (Wind, rain, sun etc.) The tent seemed rugged enough in the wind etc. - we bought delta pegs for the guy lines and that helped. Before the delta pegs, the poles tended to flex in the stronger gusts - causing the whole tent to lean at times.
Waterproofing was A1 and the overall construction of the tent was good. The lighter coloured ceiling really made a different.
We've now changed to a Vango Diablo 600 for one reason - SIG. The separate groundsheet allowed a lot of wind into the living compartment (Silverdale - Easter 2007)and it made the tent cold. We also found the wind blew some water under the flysheet off the surrounding area. There was also a very funny moment with a French Shrew in Arromanches which made my wife (The rodent-phobic 'Munglie' on UKCampsites) decide that we needed a Sewn in Groundsheet.
For my money - this tent was great value and it gave a huge base for us on our summer holidays. It was spacious and easy to manipulate .Unlike the Vango .Which seems to be a pig to put up.

We found this at Go-Outdoors & it is cheaper now than when we purchased ours - it is currently on sale at £149.00.
Seriously the best VALUE out there. Has loads of room, our children aged 10 & 8 SHARE a bedroom pod, there is so much room. It is so very easy to put up. Which is a godsend in the rain!
We just love our Gelert Alaska 8 & wouldn't be without it.
