5 Reviews of the Bala Air 6
By: Campers97 Reason: I own(ed) one Made in: 2016 Rating:
We purchased this tent a year ago and after its first use for just two nights we were generally very happy with it. Unfortunately this last weekend we used the tent again for just it's 3rd nights use and one of the poles simply exploded with a huge bang. The pole was inflated to only 6psi with the supplied pump and after just 4hours in direct sunlight the pole burst with a tremendous noise. The force of the blast even damaged the material surrounding the rubber pole and the rubber material itself now has a 4' hole in it. At the time nobody was near or in the tent. As I understand it I can't get a replacement. Very very disappointed.

I wrote the first review of this tent on 14/07/16, but do not appear to be able to edit it unfortunately.
We suffered an exploding air tube this weekend.

I have contacted Gelert and Sports Direct from where it was purchased - I am aware that they are effectively the same company.
The tube was inflated using the supplied pump, to 6psi as stated in the instructions.
Gelert have responded that this is 'general wear and tear' and there is nothing that they can do.
The tent is just under a year old and has only been used three times for less than 7-nights in total.
Apparently there are no replacement tubes available.
I can only suggest that potential customers avoid this brand of tent.

As with others, I bought this in the Gelert sale at a great price. Surprising amount of space when erected. I have only had this up to check it out, not yet used in anger. It looks the part and has 3000HH material, which matches many others. At £270 for this tent, it is a bargain. The only negatives at the moment is the lack of spare inner tubes, however, you could probably by an equivalent diameter tube from another manufacturer, which may be longer but could be clamped off to the required length. The supplied pump is poor quality and I suspect it won't last very long, but is comparable with the same pump provided by other manufacturers.

Bought this tent in the sale and used it for the first time last weekend. Fabulous tent for the price, went up in 10 minutes and another 15 to peg out. Lovely big living space and the built in porch is a nice feature. Will be camping in it again this weekend. Can't comment on the longevity or the water proofing as it didn't rain. But all in all a bargain for an inflatable tent this size. Only downside Gelert don't supply replacement Airbeams which could be an issue in the long run.

I bought one of these in the Sports Direct 'sale' for £270, alledgely reduced from £649.99 (currently available from Gelert website at same price).
The tent went up in about 15 minutes, including footprint and it seems quite sturdy. The airbeams each inflate within a minute or two, the included pump doesn't allow you to inflate to more than the recommended 7psi due to the built-in safety valve. The airbeams are each zipped into their own sleeves, which in turn are zipped into the flysheet. They velcro to the sewn-in ground sheet, in order to stop them slipping around.
The main 'living area' is large and the two bedrooms are ample in size for two, possibly three adults. There is a single divide, clipped in and with a gap at the bottom - so the bedroom pods are not fully separated.
Headroom is great - I am 6'1' and can stand underneath a lantern hanging from the centre of the airbeams.
There is one low-level ventilation slot on each side under one of the windows and a zipped EHU port. None of the windows open, but there are internal blinds which are velcroed over the windows and drop down. Fly mesh over both the front and side doors, which is not obvious from the official photographs.
The tent has only been up overnight, but the airbeams still appear to be fully inflated.
NB The Vango Pembroke/Avington 600 footprint is a perfect fit for this tent, as there is no Gelert equivalent.
