5 Reviews of the Michigan 8

Super tent, withstood some awful weather , easy to erect and loads of room. Downside is the wind can get in under the sides (not in the bedrooms) and there a lot of guy ropes to manage . Our tent has been in torrential rain, 14 hrs worth, and high winds, never leaked or sagged. A good sound tent for any group or family, there are five members in mine . I would recommend this tent .

Complete rubbish, every time it was put up at least one pole cracked. Was draftier than spending a night in a wind tunnel and blasted cold. It was useless! I would not buy another Gelert product. SIGs on the bedrooms meant that was one part where water could not penetrate, but everywhere else where the wind got, water could.
The design was flimsy, the quality poor to abominable. I am surprised that after this tent my wife wanted to go camping again!

I picked one of these up as a real bargain around 4 years a go. Since then we have camped all over Europe in it and it has been an excellent tent.
The only real downside to us was the fact that it did not have a sewn in groundsheet. It can get a bit drafty in the living area on the cooler nights.
We have been through some horrendous weather in this tent, and remained dry. We have now moved on to the Gelert Beyond Meridian 10 which I saw as a step up from this.

There are lots of things about this tent we like. It's easy to pitch (with two people) and has stood up to some strong winds without any problems. In fact we've pitched it in strong winds and that was fine. The inside is roomy and comfortable, the cabins are flexible as you can split them in half using detachable dividers, and they are genuinely big enough for 4 people at each end. The living space is large with handy storage pockets built in.
My main bugbear on this tent is the groundsheet which I simply cannot get to line up in any meaningful way. It's a very odd shape and size for the space it is meant to fill and therefore awkward to peg down. Combined with the gap at the side mentioned by the other reviewer, this means that on a windy day/night you have wind blowing through the tent, lifting the groundsheet and generally feeling a bit insecure. When it's wet you get rain coming in at the edges too. I never feel like I can store much stuff in the living area as the element are passing through!
The cabins are very cosy though as obviously they have the sewn in groundsheet so we have always been very snug at night.

Having used this for a weeks holiday as the first use I am pleased with the tent overall. Well made, roomy, well ventilated, cosy at night. One thing I'd change is the large gap between side and floor in living area, it allowed a lot of 'stuff' to blow in. It didn't seem draughty just a pain to keep sweeping leaves n things out. We found it very easy to put up and take down and looked to be one of the more stable tents on our site, it didn't sag or anything like that. In all, I'd say it was a great purchase.
