1 Reviews of the OMEGA 8 Air
By: MarcusValhalla Reason: I own(ed) one Made in: 2015 Rating:
We bought this tent to replace an older 'normal' 8 berth tent as we were impressed by the videos and claims of how quickly inflatable tents can be put up. The idea, for us, was that if we had a tent that was quick to put up, we could do one night stop-overs with less hassle, and so travel further. And these tents are quick and a lot easier to put up, compared to a standard tent with shock-corded poles. We can inflate and get the tent basically pegged out in 10-15 minutes (a bit longer to untangle and peg out all the guy ropes.) You also need less space to actually physically erect the tent as you don't need to lay out any poles.
The minor problem is that inflatable tents need to be deflated at the end of your stay, and this process takes a little longer (at least if you want to get it back into the - large - storage bag) - though we've got it down to an art now (it involves alternately sitting on the tent and rolling it up a little at a time) it's certainly turned out to be too much hassle for a quick overight stop.
Aside from the pitching/unpitching, it's fairly similar to most 8 berth tents of this general layout - enough space for a small family (there are 3 of us) to stay in comfort and sufficient height to move around comfortably in the tent. The odd hourglass shape does make for extra headroom, and isn't that obvious when you're in the tent. The tent seemed watertight and adequately well put together. The inflatable elements stayed inflated for well over a week without needing any additional air.
We paid £550 for ours, which I think is a fair price. If I was paying much more I'd shop around some other similar tents before opting for this one.
