7 Reviews of the Quick Pitch SS XL

I have several tents from a 9 berth family tent to this one. My son and daughter love it. So quick and easy to erect and because of this we regularly camp in the garden. The problem I have is the condensation. It's always a problem and every morning it is wet despite full ventilation being open. Its fun for a night in the garden and up in minutes but be prepared to be wet in the morning. It's a pity because it is a reasonable size and does not leak.

Great to erect and put away.
Condensation is a major problem though.
Not really worth the time.

I have never been camping before, so was looking for something easy, quick and able to stand up to the elements.
I decided to choose a pop-up tent, for the ease in erecting it, and was recommended the Gelert by my local camping store.
POSITIVES
The SS XL comes in a neat carry-case with strong handles and space for lots of other bits and bobs.
It is certainly very straight-forward to erect, and literally jumps out of its carry-case and into shape.
The ropes are simply hooked into the ground, with the metal rods supplied, in order to make it secure.
It was very large inside for one person, and would be adequate for two. I managed to fit a double inflatable mattress inside and there was still a bit of room left over.
The tent was very sturdy and there was no coldness (however, please see Negatives below)
NEGATIVES
The tent did, over the course of the night amass a lot of condensation, despite the air vent on the exterior being fully open. This water collected at all the edges of the tent, causing dampness to parts of the bedding and having to deal with it whenever you entered/exited. The odd drop also fell from the roof of the tent.
The tent was almost too air-tight, despite the air vent being fully open, and was a little too warm.
The zip of the entrance often came caught in the zip-hiding fabric.
Despite going to the lengths of using instructional videos online to practice, I still find it very difficult to fold the tent away properly.

This little tent would be ideal if it had a decent floor. Masses of room inside the XL for such a small tent. Easy to pitch and pack away. And even though it is single skin there is enough ventilation to lessen the problem of condensation but not eradicate it altogether. The floor is nylon - no pvc groundsheet so it is NOT WATERPROOF. I took it back and had a look at some more Gelert tents and unfortunately, most of their pop-up tents have the same problem - even their double skin version and the 4 berth version. Such a shame - you'd think they would have thought that one through. All in all, good for overnight stops in the summer when you are spending time outside and literally just sleeping in it.

We have four tents and are seasoned campers. Of all our tents, this one is the most fun and the one that is most like ‘camping’. The previous comments for this tent are entirely valid, but might be missing the point completely.
It's an overnighter - quick to put up and at 35 quid on Ebay, is good value for money. ALL nylon tents have condensation, that's why there's so much ventilation. Our big nylon tent is dripping in the mornings - our canvas trailer tent doesn’t do that, but then it takes two hours to put up.
And that's the joy of these pop-up tents. This one goes up in seconds and comes back down in not many more. I watched a video on Youtube, copied it and got it in one. I can take it down and pack it in less than a minute.
My wife and I and our twelve-year-old son sleep in ours. It’s very sung, but that’s half the fun and it’s a real giggle. Sure, it’s rough and ready camping, but is perfect for those times when you don’t want to lug all your gear with you and just want to get out there. Two adults would fit comfortably.
I put a hose pipe on mine for five minutes and it only leaked along the front seam by the zip. All tents will do this though and a little seam sealer will fix it. I don’t know how it would hold up in proper rain, but if the weather forecast was for very heavy and prolonged rain, we simply wouldn’t take this tent.

We purchased this tent for my 11 year old daughter. She did not sleep in it overnight, only left her sleeping bag and solar light inside. The next morning the floor was soaking wet, as were the sleeping bag and light. This was caused by condensation, a problem of which Gelert are aware of. Below is their reply to my complaint:
Hi
As the quick pitch is a SS, ss stands for single skin, with this item.
Unfortunately it does get wet inside because of the condensation, this collects in the inside of the tent, as the tent is fully water proof.
This does not mean it is very breathable which will unfortunately not allow the water out, which will collect on the bottom of the tent as there is not enough vents in the tent. The only way to overcome this problem is to upgrade the double skin version of the tent however this is a bit more pricey but makes up for this as it does not have the problem of the single skin,
I do apologise for your discomfort

Used this for young granddaughter inside a Sunncamp Travel Cabin. Wouldn't really like to try it in bad weather but it goes up so quickly it takes you by surprise - putting it away is another matter. Watched the video and did it easily but on site it took a few attempts to get it small enough to go into the bag. Our 9 year old loved it but said she wouldn't have liked anyone else in there with her- too snug!
