4 Reviews of the Scafell Rock Eclipse 6

I bought this tent as I wanted to try camping without spending a fortune in case we didn't like it. I think we paid £45 for it. The tent has three poles - a dome, with an extra pole to create the porch. You pitch it flysheet first, and it is very straight forward. It was a bit tricky to pitch in breezy weather, as the front pole isn't stable until it's pegged and guyed, but once it was up it felt very stable and didn't seem bothered by the gusty winds we had later that night. I was very pleased with the quality of the tent for the money - we saw a similar style 4 man tent from Halfords (which sells for £50) which looked decidedly flimsy compared to ours.

It calls it's self a 6 man, but you wouldn't get six airbeds in. It is adequate for 4, and would be spacious for 2. The tent has a side door, and a roll up door at the front of the porch. It has a double skinned door (one net door) to the sleeping area, with pockets in the sleeping area and a lantern point (but mind your head if you do hang a lantern there!) The bedroom groundsheet is sewn in, but the groundsheet for the porch area is just attached to the inner. As the flysheet doesn't meet the ground (unless we pitched it wrong) there is a gap around the edges which means the porch isn't fully weather tight. Because of this, and the fact you can't stand up in it, I'd say it is more of a long weekend tent than one for a week or two.

I acquired the 4 man version of this tent from B&Q (of all places) for the absolute bargain price of £29.99, and I cant praise it enough.

Easy to erect with a substantial porch area for equipment and cooking gear.

The first time we put it up at a campsite the heavens opened up and battered us with torrential rain, wind and even a hailstorm for good luck.Yet the tent remained sturdy and dry.

I will be using this tent for hopefully years to come and would recommend it to anyone looking for somewhere to stay for a couple of days.

I have this tent and have used it on 2 occasions now and it is just perfect. No draft, kept us nice a dry through the wettest week ever and is plenty large enough for our double mattress and small table and. Hairs in the sleeping compartment. Erecting the tent was so easy with just 3 poles to fully erect was a joy to erect even in poor weather. It really was home from home staying in this tent. I could not recommend this tent more for couples and small families.

I have a large 8 person tent (Khyam Ontario 8) for my family of four. However, I wanted to take my two children away for a short trip while my wife had to work, so I thought a more modest-sized tent would be sensible. I bought one of these and have just spent four days camping in Wales. We had a great time and the tent performed really well - plenty of room for the three of us. I put it up on my own with no problems and we found it draft-free and water-proof. The weather we had was quite mild so I can't yet vouch for its performance in really bad weather. For shorter trips of less than a week, this is ideal for us. For longer holidays, I would want to use our larger tent. Based on one trip, I'm very impressed with this and am happy to recommend it. Note: I have listed this under Gelert as Scafell Rock is not listed on this site as a manufacturer and I've read elsewhere that these are actually made by Gelert.
