This tent is great for a family of four even though its 6 berth, plenty of room, very sturdy in wind. Easy to erect for two people. The porch area is good for cooker,muddy shoes etc. We had the Tahoma 9+ which was just as great but a bit big for us so got the Tahoma 6

Would recommend this tent to everyone!

We have had our Tahoma 6 for 2 years now, and have finally managed to use it. Its old, we bought it second hand,and it has mould patches on it, from the previous owners usage. We took it to Wales, and I have to say, that despite tent envy from looking round at all the newbies,we are keeping our old gal. No leaks, despite age, no condensation, SIG intact despite rough ground, and the biggest bonus is the fact its a inner pitch first, means we have a dry, warm, cosy and draft free living area. Gelert supplied us with a carpet for a much larger tent (now discontinued) which when folded over gave us a luxurious floor to sit and the kids to play in. We bought a small heater to take the chill off and we found we didnt need it on for long. I know this style of tent is now so yesterday, but really, if you want a dry warm tent with plenty of space and a utility area then this golden oldie is definitely one to consider still. It took around 1 hour to put up and around the same to take down and fold away properly, the bag is a big tight, and it is quite heavy but opened out in the boot of the car there would be space on top. As long as it is pitched on the flat there is no water run under or puddles on the fly to worry about. Not a quick weekender tent, but a weeks stay family tent, and my only real bug bear is the weight and time to erect it, but hey thats what I have a husband for!

We have had this tent for four years and used it around 4 or 5 times a year. Its great. There are 4 in our family and the tent size is ideal. Even though it is classed as as a 6 man tent any more than four would be a squeeze in the bedroom areas. I recently bought a double depth double airbed which fits comfortably into the bedroom. We are looking to get a new tent now as things have just started to fall off it, nothing major; a pole tie here or a zip fastener there. The kids are gutted that we are going to renew it as they are very attached to it and call it Gill. Even though Gelert is considered a budget brand, this tent has all you need and a lot of little valuable quirks to make your camping experience more comfortable. Our new tent will have a lot to live up to that's for sure!

Great tent to be in once it is put up. I have to put it up alone whilst my wife takes the children for a walk, takes about an hour and a half, would be more suitable for a family with slightly older children who can go off and play.

Very sturdy when up and has never leaked and plenty of room.

Takes a fair bit of room in the car boot, found this works best if I open the case out on the boot floor then put other things on top.

When I brought this tent was after a bad experience with a 4 man pro-action. At the time we'd just started camping as family. So we wanted a large family tent with lots of room. So when to local independent camping shop. They were very helpful. So looked at number of different tents and makes. The thing that sold the Tahoma6+ was the SIG and light and airy feel to the tent even with the sun beating down. Its been wonderful tent as we've used in heavy rain strong gales, stud up to anything the elements have thrown at us. Great first tent, fairly easy to put up in about 45 minutes. All in all great family tent lots of room.

Been using the Tahoma 6 for around 6 years without any problems, been an excellent tent over the years and only just sold it to make way for a new tent, which I will review once I have used it. The Tahoma 6 takes about an hour to put up with 2 adults and 2 screaming kids wanting to help, lol.

After 6 years of good use, it was starting to get a bit tired, but have sold it on to another family as their first tent experience, which I think isn't a bad choice. It still has a few years left in it yet, and with a waterproofing treatment would go on for a lot longer.

The room inside is fantastic, bedrooms are large enough for a tall kingsize airbed. Material is strong as is the sewn in groundsheet which kept us dry, warm and bug free for our week long camping trips. Never had a problem at any campsites with the size.

It has no cable access point but we put the cable in through the back door which worked fine.

A good quality tent which ages gracefully and is still just as good if not better than more modern tents.

We're so pleased with our tent! We recently upgraded to it, having had a disaster with a Halfords tent! The instructions could be a little clearer for 1st timers, but once we'd had a couple of practices found we didn't need them any more anyway.

There's ample room both in the living area and bedrooms. Having the built-in ground sheet in the inner tent is a real bonus, as it really does keep the wind and creatures out (especially the flying ones!).

We're really looking forward to our next camping session!

We have just bought our tent second-hand (not sure how old it is) and find all the comments useful. Please would someone explain the 3 types of peg mentioned in previous messages. Plus, any useful ideas on putting this up with only two people would be gratefully received.

A very good, very big 6 man tent that could probably squeeze in 8 without too much of a problem.

We have used this tent for three seasons and have now upgraded to a caravan, only because we need something a bit more weather proof for going to dog agility shows.

The tent is huge but the side effect of this is that it is very heavy when packed in the bag. I can just manage to move it myself. My partner can't even lift it off the ground.

The bag has three sections containing the inner, the outer and the poles.

Pitching is a challenge first time around trying to deide which poles to insert first but you will work out your way of doing it once you have done it once - I don't think it really matters.

The inner goes up first. Can be a bit tight getting the poles connected ito the pins at each end but it needs to be that way to keep the canvas tight. Once you have the inner up and pegged down you then pull the outer over, tie it on and peg it down. There are numerous guy lines which are very effective at keeping the outer tight and off the inner tent.

Once pitched there is a spacious porch area, perfect for drying wet dogs, we use it for cooking to as you can open the front door to ventilate while you have the heat on. The tardis-like central living area is enormous and draft free. More than big enough for family living on holiday. We could hang our lamp on the centrally mounted D-loop so had a high light source out of the way. The sewn in ground sheet is great. I could never go back to a separate one again.

The two bedrooms are off the main living area and could easily sleep 8 close adults in more comfort than most 4 man tents. We found these to be draft free but difficult to heat.

Advantages:

-Size: Tardis-like, it doesn't really have a huge footprint, but it is spacious inside, helped by the central living area being tall enough to stand up in at any point, so no ducking. Plenty of room for a family to sit/lounge around in. One sleeping room easily takes our three teenagers, for a week, with no territorial squabbles, whilst hubby and I had loads of room in the other. The porch is fantastic, with its own separate ground sheet, and a pouch tidy thing to hang on the wall. If your pitch isn't perfect, as one of ours wasn't, we kept the main area of the tent on the level and put the porch bit down the slope - it didn't affect the rest of the tent at all.

-Sewn in ground sheet: brilliant, no drafts or bugs :) Separate porch ground sheet meant most of the mud stayed where it belonged!

-Ventilation/light: excellent windows/vent systems, endlessly adjustable.

-Waterproofness: We bought this tent because we were in Wales and our old one leaked, horribly. A nearby camping store had a tent show on, the tents had been up two weeks. This was the only subŁ300 tent NOT to have damp areas in the porch/entrance. We bought it, used it for 6 nights of continuous, often thundery, rain, and stayed blissfully dry :) The inner doesn't threaten to touch the outer at all.

-Guy ropes: bright, sturdy, double attached, so very flexible and easy to get the tent tight.

Disadvantages:

- heavy: It needs two people to move it more than a yard, unless you remove the poles first.

-erecting: inner first. Serious nuisance unless dry, windless day (in the UK???) Apparently that is why this is being dicontinued and the zenith is replacing it. Also why this is so cheap :)

-instructions: they ASSUME that everyone knows what to do with 3 different types of peg, and that the fly sheet ties on special loops on the poles of the inner before you peg it, and that doing this helps centre the fly correctly. We didn't figure this out until we were laid in bed wondering what the hell those ties were, and what should we have done with them, and will the fly sheet fly away in the night?! (it didn't, because all those guy ropes and pegs are really effective)

Conclusion: brilliant family tent. Saved our holiday, and ensured that despite 6 days of rain, our family still enjoys camping!
