3 Reviews of the Tornado 5 DLX
By: Bucklett Reason: I own(ed) one Made in: 2010 Rating:
I purchased this tent in a sale two weeks ago and used it this weekend. What an excellent tent. So easy to put up and very quick all up and moved in with a cup of tea in 30 mins. Very comfortable for two persons and two dogs think it may be a squeeze for the five it states it can fit. The weather was extremely torrential and the tent withheld the condition easily. Porch area fits all cooking equipment and two persons comfortably and canopy supports it self very well and no sagging. Have not found anything to moan about it so a good all rounder and packs down very small.

Used this tent for the first time at the weekend and for me and the 2 dogs, it was perfect. I was able to get the tent up in half an hour but did make sure I spent extra time adjusting the guys and pegging everything pegable!
The bedroom area is very spacious although I think 5 people would be a tad squashed! However, for me and my double airbed, there was still plenty of space for storage and the dogs bed. Plus, the height is excellent for standing up. The bathtub type inner sheet meant there were no draughts at floor level and the pockets in the sides were useful for keeping things like a torch, mobile phone etc close by when settling down to sleep.
The living/porch area was roomy enough, although a bit of space is lost with the sloping front. When the weather is good, having the porch open creates more space.
The weather was windy but the tent stood firm and after checking the guys and pegs during the course of the weekend, we had no mis-haps. During the evening and night, it rained heavily but we stayed nice and dry. The only downside was the sloping doorway which did mean some water dripped in, but a large golf umbrella leant against the doorway stopped the rain coming in and an old towel on the ground soaked up any wet.
All in all, very happy with this tent and look forward to using it for more weekends away.

Only used it twice and the porch pole snapped the 2nd time. It was very windy but just looking at the pole you would think they would snap easily. They are quite thin. I realise that this also makes it light weight but that doesn't help when you trying to put your tent back together at 3am in the freezing cold and dark. Apart from that it is a good tent, I love the design and there is plenty of porch space. We have replaced the pole and are yet to use it again but will hopefully have better luck than last time. I've always bought Gelert tents and still wouldn't purchase any other make.
