4 Reviews of the Vector 4
By: Susan.rigby Reason: I own(ed) one Made in: 2012 Rating:
I've just upgraded to this tent having been looking around for one that ticked all of the boxes for me: possible to put up on your own, sewn in ground sheet so the dog doesn't escape at night and standing room, all without taking up too much room in the boot or being too expensive. It ticked the last box mainly because it's an old model so quite heavily discounted if you can find any in stock still.
I've only used it once so far in light rain, but once up it felt very sturdy and I hope will do well in much worse weather.
It did take me about an hour to get it up the first time, but that was with the dog and my 4 year old 'helping' and I'm sure will be a lot quicker next time.
I only used one bedroom which gave us a huge living space. It's a great size for 2 and a dog but I wouldn't want to do more than a weekend with 4. Having the sewn in ground sheet made it a lot cosier in the evenings. There's plenty of ventilation and mesh above the small windows though so we didn't get any condensation despite the damp conditions.
I've given it a high score because it's a great value tent that works really well for me but there were a couple of points if I'm being picky. The windows are only small and constructed like vents. So you can roll up the fly sheet in the day time to uncover them, but it means that you have to go back out at night to put them down. Also the ties on the door seem to be designed so if you want the fly mesh down you have to put the poles up to use the door as an awning, as the other tie for the door is inside (I managed rolling it anyway, but it's obviously not designed to do that). Oh and contrary to all of the pictures and specs I saw before buying it my version had 5 poles.
All in all I love this tent and would definitely recommend it.

Excellent tent only reason I gave it 9/10 is the bedroom
Is a bit small to fit my double airbed in,it just fitted but was touching the end of the tent.
I camped September 2012 weather was lovely but on the last night the wind got up it rained very heavy but the tent was fine it with stood the rain and wind.I have not got the extra canopy better without it in strong wind

The Vector 4 was our first ever tent. The reason we decided on the Vector were:
- 2 separate inners that may or may not be used
- standing height
- large enough to store luggage, chairs and table during the night
- really good deal (package including tent, ground sheet and awning).
We went for short breaks three times but have now decided to upgrade.
The pros:
- The tent is fairly easy to pitch, it took us a while first time around but it is neither difficult nor time consuming once you've done it.
- The tent is large enough for 4. However, as a couple we decided to only put one inner up, which we used as storage. It may have felt a little small had we used the other inner as our bedroom.
- The separate ground sheet was very useful as it kept the tent spotless on packing up.
- The awning gives a great sense of space and it's lovely to sit out whilst having some protection.
The cons:
- Unless you practice pitching before you go first time you may get a little frustrated on your first outing.
- The awning seems to attract midges, mosquitos and other bugs and they appear to get trapped under it and stay for the evening.
If you camp in windy areas (avoiding the midges and the bugs) the awning attracts the wind and this can be rather noisy when you are trying to sleep.
- Our last camping trip ended with some damage to the tent - due to gusts and stormy weather.
Conclusion:
If you want a reasonably priced tent that serves you well during fairly good weather then the Vector 4 is for you.
If you plan to camp by the sea or in other circumstances when you are likely to experience high winds you may want to look around before buying the Vector.
