4 Reviews of the Urban Escape 4 Man Air

By: Holdol  Reason: I own(ed) one  Made in: 2017   Rating:

As a family of 5 plus dog we have a larger air tent but was looking for a smaller tent for just my 2 girls, dog and I to camp for shorter stays. This is the only 4 man air tent that actually fits 2 double air beds, all the other 4 man air tents are too narrow. Its been up in the garden over a week now, we have camped in it 3 of those days, 2 of which were during a storm. It absolutely pelted it down and it blew a hoolie with strong gusts but the tent stood strong and not a drop of water got in. It has a fully sewn in ground sheet and a fly sheet to the front door that is fully zipped, so no chance of my wee dog escaping. A great tent that was just what I was looking for.

My wife bought this tent because it is easier and quicker to put up that our other one, 10-15 mins and the tent is up. Then a few more steadying pegs whilst my wife sorts out the inner parts and then it's time to get the kettle on.

We have used it twice, the first at Polestead and the weather was rotten to us for a whole day but the tent was spot on and no rain got in. I have read other reports about this type of tent where the owners have said how rubbish it is, unfortunately, it is the luck of the draw WHICH I KNOW IT SHOULDN'T BE but ours is great.

The second time at Riverside campsite in Littleport, Cambridgeshire. The tent was spot on again, if there is one thing we could do with it is an add-on awning to the tent to make it slightly longer to put our bits, bobs, toilet, and all the rest of the stuff my wife likes to pack but hey maybe Urban will put one on the market soon.

All in all we love this tent, it does exactly what it says on the tin ((bag) - which by the way has extra zips to enlarge the bag to cope with our poor rolling/packing skills).

I bought this tent from Halfords on Sunday 31st July 2017. We set off on our holiday to Northumberland on the following Wednesday, complete with Land Rover fully packed up and our new tent. I drove over 200 miles to our campsite and unpacked the tent and all our stuff for me and my two kids- a lot of hard work for me(dad). The first rain storm was that night and the rain came right through the tent, making everything damp. On the second day, it rained again and it came through the tent soaking everything again. We managed to survive 3 days, but then decided to come home because our 200 quid tent was rubbish. I had planned to be away for almost two weeks. I took it back on the Sunday after buying the tent, disgusted as my holiday had been ruined. Halfords apologised, but for me that was too easy. I phoned the head office the next day and they investigated. They said that I had been offered to go and change the tent at a local Halfords store. Would I find one of those in the Northumberland mountains? I doubt it somehow. In fact, the nearest was about 100 miles away. It would have been far too much trouble to pack up my camping equipment, go and find a Halfords, get another tent, go back to the camp site and set everything up again. Don't buy this tent, it's rubbish. Beware of Halfords, because if they ruin your holiday like they ruined mine, they don't want to know afterwards.

I have been looking for a keenly priced inflatable tent for some time now and as Halfords have dropped the price on this to £250, I decide to take the plunge.

This tent is the perfect size for 2. Much too small for 4, but the bedroom divider just zips out giving a generous space for sleeping.

The living area is wide and short at 300 x 140 cm. Big enough for 2 chairs and all the other paraphernalia of camping, but small if you are entertaining!

The door is large and properly vertical, covered by the porch overhang which does a good job of stopping any rain getting in.

There is a noticeable lack of any hanging tabs inside, nowhere to hang a towel for instance and there are no curtains so covering/uncovering the windows has to be done from outside.

Only one window is actually a window, the other is a gauze not watertight if uncovered.

There are also no side doors on this tent, just the front one, possibly to maintain structural integrity with the airbeams.

So inside is a bit minimal but the greys are nice and the lighter ceiling lets light through well.

This does not feel like a cheap tent and the 3000mm hydro-static head bodes well for downpours.

Pitching is a piece of cake. One person can do this with ease.

Unroll the tent completely and peg the corners.

Attach the pump to the first valve and pump for about 30 seconds until air is coming out of the safety valve on the pump. Repeat with the other 2 valves.

Then peg around the base and peg out the guys. All up in about 10 minutes.

Putting it away is just as easy and the oversized bag makes repacking a doddle.

Once inflated this tent is incredibly sturdy with headroom over 6'in the centre.

Only one trip out so far with mild rain and blustery winds, tent remained warm, dry and rigid.

Although this is a minimalist tent with few standout features, the ease of erection means we can use it for quick one night jaunts as well as weeks away.

There is presently no footprint groundsheet and no porch extension available from Halfords, both would add to the usability of the tent but neither is a deal-breaker and I think there are workarounds.

It may sound as if I am not too impressed with this offering from Urban Escape. Not the case. It is a really good product with a few finishing touches missing.
