1 Reviews of the Helsport Gimle Family 4+
By: Bikerphil Reason: I own(ed) one Made in: 2012 Rating:
Firstly, this tent is not cheap. The tent with one bedroom costs £678.00. They don't come with a mosquito net on the door, but Heliport will stitch one in for you for an extra £100.00. And the footprint will cost you about £80.00. Right, that's the painful bit out of the way. We thought long and hard about this tent before taking the plunge. The reasons we went for it were firstly because of the build quality. Yes it isn't cheap but the build quality is sublime. It feels bomb proof. Secondly, the layout was good for us, as a couple. We had a Khayam quick erect tent which did us well but the downside was the weight and packed size. The Helsport is a third of the packed size of the Khayam and weighs around 7.5 kilos, as opposed to the Khayam which weighed around 23.5 kilos. It is ever so slightly smaller in the living area, about half a metre, but to be honest we don't notice it at all, and that was our biggest issue when we were looking to replace our tent. The layout is such that it actually feels larger. You can also buy a smaller bedroom for the other end if you have kids, the main bedroom is 4 man. The pegs are red anodised and are superb quality. They are not round, so once in the wind will not loosen them. The poles are colour coded and are thick! The pole sleeves were quite tight when we first put the tent up, but we were told by the dealer that they do give a bit after a couple of trips. The pole sleeves are very thick and give the impression that they will last forever. Erecting the tent was easy, once you have put the tent up you can leave the bedroom connected for future putting up. Once pegged out it feels like a hurricane wouldn't blow it down. The first couple of nights after we had put it up for the first time were incredibly windy but it didn't budge at all. The footprint clips to the tent easily. There are some clever air circulation vents on the tent, including one in the bedroom which is like a sock and gives you the option to have the air coming in fully, or have a mosquito net in between for midge protection. The layout of the vents mean it feels very comfortable at all times.
I really cannot praise this tent highly enough. It is fantastic. Amazing. As a certain man who went on to become one half of Rolls Royce once said, ' The quality will remain long after the price is forgotten.' Amen. Need I say any more? One thing. If you want a tent that doesn't take much room up in the car, is easy to erect and feels like it will last forever, this is the only tent to consider. We purchased ours from Tamarack Outdoors near Garstang, Lancashire who couldn't have been more helpful and are seriously the best outdoor shop to deal with in the country.
