I purchased one of these along with my Hypercamp Escala 4 back in October 2011.

It is a big tarp at 3.75m square, and is well-made with reinforced corners and eyelets. The poles are made of 25mm spring-loaded steel sections, very sturdy.

Being polycotton, I found it was quieter in the wind compared with other poly/nylon tarps that I have.

As others have already mentioned, with another set of poles, one can make all sorts of tarp origami to suit one's needs.

I shall use it as part of my nicer weather set up from now on, to create a large shaded area outside my tent, so that I can sit and relax without having to change position to dodge the sun, as seen in my pic taken from a recent trip at Fforest Fields.

Highly recommended.

This 3.75 metre square polycotton tarp is ideal as a versatile, multi-purpose sun/rain shade. On our relatively small tent it trebles the usable living space and has become almost as indispensable as the tent itself.

As others have mentioned, the main poles are very sturdy 25mm steel and, at 2.3 metres, are the sort of height required to give good headroom on a tarp. An adequate set of guy ropes and pin pegs are supplied but if you are going to hold it up in heavy wind you will need some bigger pegs.

The material is fairly light weight (but heavier than 'nylon' equivalents) and appears to have a DWR treatment that means rain slides off. It will leak if water is allowed to accumulate in any place. The reinforcement points, edging and eyelets are good quality. With the addition of 2 extra (1.8metre x 20mm) poles and maybe a pack of 'Clingons' (google them, but ignore references to Star Trek!) the combinations are only limited by your imagination. Highly recommended.

Well after a season of varied use our Tarp is proving its worth both in creating shade in hot weather and shelter in bad

It is an incredibly flexible bit of kit, with a second set of poles you can do all sorts of tarp origami to suit many purposes, including in the garden at home. Way more attractive and robust than most Gazebos

Construction of the tarp is quite light weight but works well and has withstood some dreadful weather. The poles are beasties but the wire pegs have proven inadequate in bad weather and now get replaced by rock pegs or Deltas depending on conditions

When pitched properly with firm guys and 4 poles it will withstand bad weather as well as most tents though in a storm I would pull it down

In heavy rain the fabric does let water through so I suspect it is untreated, but if you pitch it carefully most of the rain runs off quickly and you can rely on it keeping some dry space underneath. Yet to decide if I will bother treating ours

Putting it up is easy solo once you know how, and can judge how far apart to peg the corner guys. Get it just right and the whole thing is up and firm in minutes. Needs a lot of space mind, with a good length of guy for stability, maybe 7m in both directions. I sometimes replace the corner guys with luminous Outwell ones if they are a trip risk to passers by

Little else like it on the market but, even so, good value and very useful. If we lost this one would buy another

The Hypercamp Canvas Tarp comes in a choice of Beige or Grey

We have a 2010 grey model, the fabric is a fairly light poly cotton (maybe 150gm/m2?) and measures 3.75m x 3.75m (I think some earlier ones were 4 x 4m and that is what the bag actually says). It is unclear to me if the fabric is treated and we have yet to try it in a downpour

Along with the canvas their are two hefty 25mm sprung steel poles that are 2.35m long. You also get a set if decent steel pegs, lots of guy lines, a pole bag, peg bag and matching canvas carry bag. It adds up to quite a bit of weight (over 6kg, mostly in the poles)

It is constructed with decent brass eyelets, reinforcement patches and tape loops at all 4 corners and the mid way point on all sides. So there are 8 attachment points and plenty of ways to use it. The whole edge of the tarp is also protected with lightweight folded 40mm tape. Using a spare set of shorter poles open up a few possibilities (we have some alloy ones left over from a dead tent that will be very useful)

If you are used to bushcraft tarps it is worth noting it only has attachments around the edge

Construction is simple, basic and reasonably neat (not perfect on our model with some inaccurate reinforcement) but I would expect it to give years of service

We needed a grey one to go with our Hypercamp Eldorado (which is grey and blue) and while the main fabric matches nicely the tarp edging is unfortunately in dark green. Not a deal breaker but maybe worth knowing

For the money I think it is reasonable value, hence 8 stars, and to be fair I dont think their is any competition at the price even with overseas delivery costs. To get 10 star for me it would need to have heavy weight fabric, like the tent, neater stitching and have plain black edging
