I bought this tent for me and my 8 year old daughter, as a considerable step up from a 2 man pop up. I wanted standing height, room to sit in comfort if it should rain, maybe somewhere to pop the Kampa Khazi for those overnight emergencies, and I wanted it to be canvas.

I am delighted to report that this tent meets all of those needs without any problem at all. Our double airbed fits in the bedroom with room to spare for books, clothes and cuddly toys. Our 2 chairs can fit nicely in the living space, and our kitchen paraphernalia sits comfortably at the side. Come bed time, 1 chair folded down means we can haul the loo into the middle of the living space and a restful night is assured.

This is an easy to erect little tent, and was surprisingly easy to fold back down to get back in the bag too. The packed tent fits neatly in my boot, alongside all my other kit. And my car is a saloon.

My favourite feature of the tent though is the ability to actually be inside it on a hot day. We even managed a little post lunch siesta, unimaginable in our pop up!

The Hypercamp Djakarta, I bought this as the perfect weekender tent, and after usage, it really is.

I wanted a canvas tent with standing room that was light and packed small enough to fit on the back of a motorbike. This was the perfect size and weight compromise that I could realistically fit to my bike. (And for any in the know, it's the same width as a bike with panniers on, and doesn't overhang).

As a 4 berth tent, it's the perfect size for a couple of bikers. The inner has a heavy duty groundsheet (the same material as the flaps on the flysheet) and is wide enough for a coleman comfort double with room on either side for 2 sets of bags, helmets and leathers. Length-wise, the airbed is tight on the corners, being a rounded 'bell' type shape, but it doesn't push the inner out enough to touch the fly.

Head height is ample, and I'm 6ft tall, so no complaints there. The quality overall is top-notch. With split mesh/clear windows covered by zip down covers, heavy duty zip on the J door, double stitched seams and numerous other details, this is definitely a high quality and affordable tent.

There are rain cowls for the door poles, stitched in sleeves for the cross piece above the door, rubber cap on the top of the main pole and plastic cup for the bottom. Steel V section pegs for the fly guys, large wire pegs to fit the all-round rubbers and two front guys, smaller wire pegs for the inner and free living area groundsheet. Also included is a repair kit, with spare pole springs and fitting tool.

Living space in inclement weather is limited, it's just big enough to fit a table on one side, and a chair on the other, so getting the Obelink tarp at the same time is definitely a good idea. With a couple of clingons and a second pair of adjustable poles, you can extend by a good 3 metres (the tarp is actually 4x4m).

Erecting the tent is a breeze, and from start to fully finished is about 40mins max. 15mins to setup the tent itself, the rest for bedding etc. Easiest way is peg the two front corners (with the door zipped shut), peg out 2 back corners, then the 2 rubbers for the rear 'bell' panel. Insert the main pole, fit the door frame poles and it's almost there, just a matter of pegging out the guys and rubbers. The inner hangs from and adjustable hook system from the main pole, and hooks into loops set around the fly. There's no real need to peg it down, but loops are fitted for the purpose.

The inner is cotton, with mesh panels fitted for ventilation, and an inverted T zip layout. 3 zips, one vertical, and 2 horizontals along the bottom. Tie back loops on either side for the door flaps, and a tie on the bottom that I use to tie to the main pole.

For rating purposes, if this tent had a SIG or a ZIG, it would definitely be a 10 out of 10, but as it stands, the free living area groundsheet is quite flimsy, but doesn't detract from the overall, mainly because of the compromise on weight and pack size.

All in all, Hypercamp have produced a high quality, low cost canvas tent with good attention to detail, and can be used for short breaks, and add a utility tent or tarp, for longer breaks as well.
