2 Reviews of the Pyramid Tarp XT

Just an update - have used the tent several times during the winter and still very good - stable and no leaks. I have stopped putting the pole through the 'witches cap', it makes no difference to the strength of the tent but does cut down on the flapping. There is a bit more condensation but nothing much. Sitting area is very useful, 6 of us managed to sit around a heatpal heater in Snowdonia in February 2013 and had a cosy evening despite the rain outside.

Generally speaking a very good tent.
Good points
Very, very, easy to put up.
Good head hight. We use this as a two man winter tent which gives a decent sized bedroom and plenty of sitting space.
Strong and well built. I have used it twice, the last in heavy rain and high winds (26/11/11) and it has stood up to the elements, not looked in any danger of blowing down or breaking and not leaked at all.
Good ventilation - so far I haven't been bothered by condensation which can be a bit of a pain in some pyramids.
Bad points
It is quite noisy in high wind though, I wondered if it was the 'Witches cap' at the top that that the wind caught, and made the material flap.
When packing up it can be difficult to undo the small pole forms into a circle and supports the shape of the 'witches cap'. I have put some silicone lubricant on and it and its still a bit of s struggle to separate the ends. Especially difficult if its cold and wet and you just want the thing away!
And the last (minor) gripe is the bag is way too small - it is a real struggle to get the tent back in. And before you say 'they are all like that' - I have owned and used probably a couple of dozen tents over the years and none is as bad as this.
However - the good points do massively outweigh the bad.

Manufacturer's Description
At Home Outdoors with friends and family! The PYRAMID TARP XT is a multifunctional tent with room for 3-6 persons.
We took the tarp concept and reworked it to create a full-spec tent with a sewn-in groundsheet. The inner tent sleeps 3 in comfort; remove it and there is room for 6 people to sleep, sit and socialise. With an apex height of 2.70 m, there is plenty of headroom, too. The compact pack size and easy pitching procedure make the tent the perfect choice for spontaneous weekend trips and kids’ camping adventures.
