1 Reviews of the 3600 Tunnel

By: Kang  Reason: I own(ed) one  Made in: 2014   Rating:

The Karsten 3600 (and presumably it's smaller, older sibling, the 2800) is a magnificent, full cotton Dutch tent.

Peg out the reassuringly thick bisonyl groundsheet, insert the front, adjustable alloy pole into the zipped (2/3 opened) exterior sleeve, lift, loosely guy and proceed to poles two, three and four. Close pole zips. Attach front panel and optional rain awning, adjust guys and you are done.

From the Ten Cate cotton canvas (310g/m2), through the stitching to the chunky zips and guy fittings, everything about this tent screams quality and attention to detail. This quality is backed by a 5-year guarantee as standard.

Aesthetically, some will be deterred, but we like its slightly pedestrian, functional look.

Under heavy rain, it remained dry as a bone within. Under heavy sun, the heat was dry and pleasant.

We were slightly concerned about the 'unfitted' bedroom pods, but we needn't have been. The material used is, again, excellent and the various sheets can be zipped in and configured different ways depending on need.

We went for the extra side door and rain awning. It's certainly nice to have the extra door but not absolutely necessary, although if you are considering this tent, certainly you must get the rain awning.

If I had one quibble and it's minor, on a cold windy night, we found that the half moon vents were quite draughty, even when zipped up. This was easily rectified with a couple of jumpers, but I would have though that some sort of zip cover would be fairly easy to build in.

No instructions! I don't care how easy it is to erect - instructions please!

Make no mistake, for it's size, at 47kg it is heavy and the price equally so, but looked after, this will be a tent for life and one that I am very happy to have.
