Nov 2012 - update !

So with the season behind us I thought it worth concluding our original Review.

The 'Clingons' I mentioned, successfully resolved the Tents missing pegging points.

The inferior quality of the tent bag, (& lack of suitable handles) has resulted in several rips now having to be patched with gaffer tape.

The tent has been packed away each time following the manual's instructions; so we were annoyed upon unpacking the tent on one site to discover a broken Pole Nuckle. A spare is provided however when you purchase the tent ! Clearly this might be an ungoing feature.

The optional ground sheet has proved to be too thin & again has required some gaffer tape patching.

The tent itself is still sound, operational, & looks great up.

I'm now inclined to think that with the quality 'faults' it is over priced; & we will certainly think long & hard about buying a similar product again from this manufacturer.

March 27th 2011 - These are our initial comments on our newly purchased Balmoral.

The Tent has an impressive footprint once assembled.

As an 8 man tent it happily accommodates the 4 of us with camp beds, (2 adults, 2 teenagers) leaving plenty of space for relaxing in the tents centre when it rains, (which it hasn't yet) whilst cooking takes place out of the way in the porch area. Although we haven't done it yet, the entrance porch will make an ideal discreet location to take a porti poti overnight.

The tent bags alone will fill the boot of a Ford Focus without any trouble, ours is in our Daxara Trailer, along with the rest of our gear !

* The Tents Manual is a disappointment, it covers multiple tents & not just the Balmoral. It took us an hour to assemble the tent the 1st time following the Manual !

* The exterior Bedroom area Tent Poles aren't labelled, & I strongly recommend you look at an assembled tent before setting out, or put it up in the garden. Once you've cracked assembling the Poles, (label them !) the tent should be up in 20 minutes according to the Ad; but us mortals are taking more like 35 minutes.

* The optional shaped groundsheet purchase, is made from a lighter material than I would have liked, but on balance worth the investment. It means the tent can be rolled up without it getting muddy, however the groundsheet doesn't come with it's own bag, & the Porch area area isn't attached to the main sheet, which having used it - we believe it should be.

* The tent takes about 35 minutes to completely pack away, which isn't bad for something with this footprint.

* The tent design is missing an obvious Bedroom area pegging point, an additional peg point halfway between the Bedroom outside corner, & the point where the Bedroom attaches to the centre area. With this peg point missing, that area of the Tent isn't as taut as it might have been. It will be interesting to see how that works in strong wind & driving rain .

* The Tent's carry bag is a disappointment, it lacks a sturdy design & is missing decent handles, to make it easier for two men to transport it.

We like the tent's understated colour scheme, the space if affords, & the relative ease that it allows us to strike camp. The design niggles mentioned above reduce the Wow factor when you 1st set it up, & that is why we've scored it 7 out of 10.

This might help resolve the 'missing' Peg point for the Balmoral's bedroom areas.

As an afterthought, I went out into several Forums on this Site to check out if there were after market items available ?

I've seen several members on this Site recommend these items at the URL above.
