3 Reviews of the Longleat
By: Adaptcom Reason: I've used one Made in: 2009 Rating:
Well we decided to go the full hog and purchase a ‘Longleat’ after doing allot of homework. Initially ALL retail outlets were trying to put us off buying a 'Khyam' branded tent by saying that they had gone out of business in 2009 and we should be very cautious. We had previously stayed in an 'Ontario' and was impressed with the comfort and space, so the 'Khyam' brand was already sold on us. Khyam (and new owners) have now cut out the majority of middlemen and sell direct to the public via their web site and via 'JR Leisure' in Leicester.
After contacting 'Khyam' they game me some very good advice via the telephone and we decided that the 'Longleat and Annexe' was the kit for us. We had the option to buy a '2010' model (in Green) or the '2009' in blue which was £75 cheaper and no difference from the newer model that we could see. The 'Longleat' is a 'Ridgi Dome' tent which for us as newbie’s we could not put up in the time frames that 'Khyam' said was possible. We were guided by the 'Online' video (via Khyam' web site) and found this extremely useful as guidance. We also purchased a 'ground sheet' but strangely this appears to be a couple of inches longer than the main tent.
The tent is extremely spacious and a fabulous size if we have bad weather and need shelter. The bedrooms are very generous in size as well. We have also purchased a carpet for the living area (3mt x 3mt) and this gives a luxurious feel. We would recommend that you trial this tent in the garden to get a feel for putting it up prior to a live run and definitely watch the online video as well. We are well chuffed with our purchase and recommend the 'Longleat'. There are some great bargains on this tent from 'Khyam and JR Leisure' so would explore these avenues before considering 2nd hand options. I agree with 'Grumunkins' comment regarding a second 'mesh' door to allow greater air flow, this would be a nice to have. Happy to answer any user questions should you have any.

This is the 3rd Khyham we've owned - we had a Rigidome XXL, a Rigidome XXL Excelsior and now have a Longleat (which is much the same as the XXL Excelsior). Apart from having a serious tent-buying habit, we only changed from one to the other as we decided having more head-room in the bedrooms of the our original XXL would be advantageous on longer camping trips – and then our Excelsior met with an unfortunate accident, so we bought a Longleat!
Very, very pleased with the up-to-date version of the XXL Excelsior – with sewn-in groundsheet and the addition of the annexe – this makes an already great tent into a brilliant one! It is a big tent to put up, but the ‘quick-erect’ system makes it much simpler and quicker than ‘pole and sleeve’ tents of an equivalent size – and the sewn-in groundsheet has made this even more simpler.
We are a family of four – and until recently five, but now our adult daughter does not come camping any more – but it sleeps us very comfortably, with plenty of room for each of our sons to have their own sleeping pod, and we have a palatial double room for us. We invested in a carpet last year, which is really very nice underfoot and does make quite a difference.
Only one drawback for us – and especially relevant if camping in warmer climes – there is no mesh door at the back of the tent, which makes airflow difficult without leaving the main tent open to the local insect population. This is the reason for the 9 out of 10 review and it would be this, and only this, that would persuade us to change the tent – and only then if Khyam decided to update the Longleat to include a rear mesh door.

We bought this on the hope it would be easy to put up-It was! Great for putting up main living area in case its raining and you have 2 young children screaming in the car-like we did! We had never put this tent up before and it took us 10 minutes to put up the main part-and this is then upright enough for the children to go in and let off a bit of steam whilst the adults do the work- and then a further 15 to put up the 2 bedrooms and peg it down. We did however have a porch annexe and this made all the difference as we made this the cooking area allowing the inside to be a big playroom for the children. If you do not have any children with you you probably would not need this second area.We thought it would be difficult to pack away but it wasn't as long as you remember to leave the zips open to allow any air trapped inside the tent to escape- otherwise its like putting a lilo in a match box! Great tent and well worth the money, especially if like us you want space quickly.
