1 Reviews of the Motordome Classic

By: Chedjack  Reason: I own(ed) one  Made in: 2011   Rating:

I bought the Kyham Motordome as its probably the easiest to erect awnings on the market. I can easily get the awning fully set up and pegged down etc within 20 minutes without any help from anybody else.

The space is fantastic and the connection to the VW camper is almost the full length of the van so all the space is usable. The fitting to the van is snug and stops any water ingress etc. I have a gutter rail on the van which accepts kador strip with 'figure 8' to make it very easy to disconnect and re-attach for driveaway option.

The window space is smaller than some other awnings but there are doors with screen nets on two sides which give plenty of options.

There are reports of the tent being torn by the sliding door and this is something you have to be really careful about but I found a quick and cheap way to solve this. I bought a telescopic clothes line prop from Morrisons for under £3 and put a tennis ball over the top to prevent the canvas being torn. Put this at the back end of the van where the sliding door gets close to the roof of the tent and hey presto, no contact! I wrapped the clothes prop with foam pipe insulation to avoid any scratches to my paint.

Its worth getting the manufacturers ground sheet and this can be clipped with crocodile clips under the cill of the van to keep draughts out as well.
