5 Reviews of the Motordome Sleeper
By: GAVLAD Reason: I own(ed) one Made in: 2012 Rating:
I bought a Kyham Motordome sleeper tent in February 2012 and received excellent service from JR Leisure.
I've now used it three times attached to the roof gutter of my camper via a figure of 8 connection.
The tent is very easy to erect and gives good living space and a bedroom which allows two double air beds, so sleeps 4 comfortably.
The tent material in my view is not the best - second time of using, the connection flap between tent and vehicle tore.
After it's first outing and only slight winds, the bedroom pole which fits on the outer bent. - After emailing Kyham on numerous occasions, they finally sent me a replacement pole.
I wouldn't say that the service from Kyham is good - maybe it's a very small team who are too busy to reply to email?
This seemed the best drive away awning for the size, but it was probably one of the dearer models as well.
With that, you have to buy your own separate ground sheet - Kyham sells foot-prints but should take note, these are of tarpaulin type material and no good for most UK sites who now insist on breathable ground sheets.
(Take this into account before purchasing)
Would I buy this tent again?
Probably not - you can get a better design and make if you bought a normal stand-alone tent and position a shelter/gazebo between your vehicle and tent - saves having to park exactly where you was prior to going out in your vehicle.

Motordome Sleeper purchased Sept 2009 - used Summer 2010 in Spain/France/Germany/Belgium - great but weather was good; mostly light breezes and sunshine. We've used it a number of times in UK since - always in good weather - again no problems. Used it twice this year in Pembrokeshire where it was blowing a bit - not gale force but windy. Broke three guy/peg moorings and the bedroom pole snapped right by the joint - this was not unreasonable use but the materials simply did not stand up. Told Khyam for their information/product improvement - who told us to take it up with the supplier - not really interested. So nice looking bit of kit that erects easily but NOT something you can rely on - just like the manufacturers aftercare.

Fantastic quality awning that comfortably sleeps 4 people. The quick erect system means it can be used for quick stopovers and my husband can put it up on his own in 10mins (not including pegging out time)
Comes with fly screens and a choice of attachment options as well as a couple of spare knuckle joints for the poles which is really helpful.Definitely worth the extra money for quality and ease of use.
Only minor downside is that the windows are quite high so you can't sit and watch the world go by once all the doors are zipped up and it is quite bulky & heavy when folded.
Several friends have since purchased the khyam motordome sleeper for their campervans as they were so impressed.

Excellent awning. A premium price product but very well designed and manufactured. Current version is the quick erect system very simple to get up and down. Loads of room inside with or without the sleeping compartment. Ideal for use with our VW Camper

This is the version of this drive away awning tent which we have. It has 2x2 sleeping arrangement , with ample room for a table etc.
Well made awning that can be attached by figure of eright or pole and clamp.
This years model much lighter which is great.
Optional non fixed in ground sheet for the sitting area. High quality tent. Quick to erect and take down. It is the answer to our prayers in our family , for weekends away surfing / camping / staying with friends.
High quality . A winner
