5 Reviews of the Ontario 6

By: Bigbaldead  Reason: I own(ed) one  Made in: 2006   Rating:

We have holidayed three times in our Ontario 6 and its a fantastic tent, very easy to put up. I was very impressed when we had quite a bit of heavy rain and wind and the tent took it all. Its has loads of room inside, we use the big bedroom for two adults and a child. The only downside to this tent is lack of ventilation I personally think.

Really easy to put up and to dismantle(but does need 2 people). Loads of space. The 3 inner tents can be put up as required. I large, one single and one double - leaving loads of room for table and chairs etc. Performed well in high winds. It's quite tall and you can stand in all areas - even my husband who is 6'2'.

We bought this tent last year and can not praise it enough. It is easy to put up with the colour coded poles making. Two of us can get the tent up and the kids pegging all the guys out in 30 mins. We have had one drip come in to the tent and this like ladylula's was above the door, but we realised it was off the tie that you tie the door up with in the heat, we sealanted the pieces of tie and have had no problems. There are 4 of us and we can happily sit around the table when all the rooms are in use with the cooler in the corner and not feel cramped. We have invested in the Sun Porch and have to say that this makes a great tent fantastic, it gives extra cover from the elements; a place to leave the shoes and coats if wet, we keep the stove out here and the table. We use the two person and 3 person rooms and use the single room as a larder we keep the closed and the inner rolled back for ventilation. We love our Ontario 6 and can guarantee that it can withstand torrential rain for days on end it does have a HH of 5000, wind that caused other tents and even caravan awnings problems are no problem for the Ontario. At 7m long and 2.5m wide its perfect size for most pitches and it's similar in length to a caravan. Probably the best tent you can buy for under £200 in our opinion.

Like Ladylula, I love the Ontario 6. I've had no problems with the tent leaking. Big windows, plenty of light, and plenty of room. Aside from the build quality, it's the little design extras that make this tent: a zipped vent for taking an EHU cable, plenty of storage pockets, the lip for the sewn in groundsheet (no river in the morning, and no bugs crawling in!), colour coded poles, plenty of ventilation. The tent has plenty of headroom (no stooping. Hurrah!).

I believe this Khyam has a 5000mm hydrostatic head (meaning you still stay dry in torrential rain).

The tent is 7m long. The three inner tents can be removed to create additional living space. The whole thing can be pitched with the inner tents in situ.

This tent is versatile. When my mother joins us, we add in the 2 man inner tent for her, and the 1 man inner for a kennel for her dog (and the bin - no problem with flies). There's still room for three to sit down to eat, for a fridge, and room for the cooking station.

On another holiday, it was just my 5 year old and myself in the Ontario, and a group of friends in their own tents. The 1 and 2 person inner tent bedrooms were removed, and 5 adults were sat playing cards at night round a table (in the dry and away from the wind). In the daytime, we use this space as a large play area for the kids to enjoy. When it rains, we don't feel cramped.

As a single Dad, I agree with Ladylula that it's a challenge to pitch a tent of this size on your own, which may explain my breaking tent poles on occasion. I've solved this problem by replacing the standard fibreglass poles with durawrap ones. It is a testament to how much I like this tent that I considered it worth spending almost as much on the replacement poles as I did on the tent itself.

I bought it second hand and LOVED it. I did have a bit of a struggle putting up but this was done mainly on my own (being a single mum) and unfortunately the only pitch I could get was on a slight slope and it made it quite difficult to get the tent straight. However, this was MY fault and not the tent. It rained, by heck did it - and I only had a very slight drip coming in from one of the over head door seams. HOWEVER I would reiterate that this tent is now a couple of years old and for the amount of rain we experienced, I think the amount that got in really was minimal. There was plenty of room . And would have been even more if my two girls had appreciated the art of needing to be a bit more tidier! But I managed to get a small table, three largish chairs, a dog cage (poor thing - he hated it - but that's another story) and a large cooking larder. I will be investing in the Sun Porch to give some more storage space. Like other reviewers, my kids used one room and the smaller (1 person room in my 6 berth version) was used for the Kampa Khazi. Really recommend this make of tent. Excellent
