3 Reviews of the Quebec 8 XC
By: Davesaat Reason: I own(ed) one Made in: 2010 Rating:
Very spacious for a 8 man tent. There were only 3 of us, but bought a bigger tent, as we knew we liked camping, and wanted to invite friends in future. It was easy to erect, taking about an hour (even without reading the instructions), as all the poles and sleeves were colour coded.
However, just like the previous reviewer, we also had issues with this tent. After 2-3 days, after some heavy rain, we discovered that there was a leaky window. Fixed with some seam sealer that came with the tent, so no problem really. More rain then followed, and it started coming up through the sewn in groundsheet. On closer inspection, there was a small hole in the fabric.
On packing away the tent, we noticed some other issues. We were 'rained on' when inside the tent and putting it away, even though it was dry outside. Water seemed to be penetrating the tent from small droplets from the previous night's rain. Additionally, we bought a footprint groundsheet and also noticed that it too had holes.
Returned the tent - would have been happy to have a replacement, but fond it was no longer for sale. JR Camping allowed us to choose an alternative - went for the Outwell Nevada M.
Strengths:
Quick to erect
1 x 4 man bedroom (can be divided into 2)
2 x 2 man bedrooms
Plenty of living space
Extra roof panel 'insulates' the roof - seemed to work
Weaknesses:
Vents by bedrooms cannot be zipped, so open in the wind
Door is not fully zipped (only zips to the ground)
No fly screens on doors

Have only used this tent once so far (1week in Cornwall) and so far, so good. Pretty tricky to put up in windy conditions due to the sheer size, but the size and practicality of it's layout inside is what makes this tent so good. With 2 adults and 3 kids this still left a spare 'room' for clothing, bags, food etc and there is room for a table and 5 chairs in the middle section (just about).
The quality seems ok, but we have had an inside pocket rip very easily when the kids were playing ! Also, we have experienced the stitching starting to tear at various ring points around the base of the tent. Word of warning when erecting: make sure you get the inside 'rooms' up and zipped up BEFORE you start fully pegging out the outer fly. This is because if you inadvertently stretch the fly too wide (widthways) when pegging, it will be impossible to zip up the doors of the inner 'rooms'. Not a disaster but a bit of a pain.
This tent does tend to flap around a lot in high wind, I guess just due to the lightness of the material, but it is still very secure. We had a week of strong winds and some rain and it stood up well with no leaks. Would recommend this as a good family tent but too early to report on it's reliability or quality. We're going camping again at the end of the month for a few more days so will report any problems on our return!

Recently purchased this tent due to mice having a feeding frenzy on our Ontario. Loved the idea of the reinforced poles making the overall weight heavier but not really a problem. Very easy to pitch, little more difficult in windy conditions as is the same with most tents. Found it best to peg all 4 corners first, slacken all ring pin straps, insert all the fibreglass poles. Then starting with the middle red pole attach the steel poles then insert the pin and clip the tent to the poles, repeat with all poles and peg out main guy ropes.
Loved this tent at first then a whole can of worms were opened found a slit in the fly sheet and the stitching came away at a ring point also guy ropes not threaded properly. The tent was then exchanged for a new 1 without any problems,on our second tent pitched it without any problems that was until it rained and water started leaking in through all 4 bottom corners of the windows and on packing the tent away there was a slit in the groundsheet where you could clearly see the seam was not joined correctly. Now after another conversation with khyam and the promise of all the issues been sorted out we gave them another chance but were told the seams needed to be painted with sealant as it would not be practical for them to do it, not filling us with the greatest of confidence and we were disappointed yet again we lost all faith with the brand and model. A full refund was given and will be purchasing a new tent from elsewhere

Manufacturer's Description
This large family tent uses a reinforced steel pole system, combined with standard fibreglass poles, to create an extremely spacious tunnel style tent. Simple and easy to erect, ideal for touring and long stay family holidays. The clip in roof lining dramatically reduces condensation as well as helping to maintain a stable comfortable temperature in warmer climates. Also features the new framed porch around the main side door. Simply a fantastic family tent.
