3 Reviews of the Ridgi-Pod Classic

Like another member bought this at half price with all bedroom pods new!
It is as many have said the Rolls Royce of tents completely unshakeable whatever the weather throws at it and absolutely vast inside.
Although it is a flexidome and the main part of the tent goes up in 15mins, by the time you have bedrooms, groundsheets guys etc up we reckon it takes two of us about 90 mins really. However it is a great tent. We have bought a Freelander DLX as a quick up weekend tent, but for a week or more camping you can't beat the Ridgi-Pod!

We bought one of these discontinued tents as we have previously had a Khyam frontier and been v impressed by the quality of manufacture of the older khyams. It had stood up to everything, but was too big for the 4 of us to want to bother for a long weekend.
The idea of a modular Khyam sounded ideal! We have a porch inner for weekend use, and the pods that we can put up. We have shared the tent with other families on this basis.
The main part is easy to get up, and I like the adjustable poles, to allow for uneven ground. Then one of us can scoot inside to do groundsheet, inner and bedroom stuff, whilst the other pegs out. Although this is a slightly long winded job, you are at least watertight by this point should it rain!
The groundsheet is a gripe. I just can't get ours to lie right. I don't think it is quite big enough [this might be just ours!]
The tent stands up to all sorts though, and love the light from the roof windows.
The polycotton dual mesh and opaque doors on inners of high spec and quality.
We have found you can also 'bodge' fit a Khyam sunporch to the sides, to allow a sheltered entrance - which is ideal in the English camping season.
Yes, we love it, and yes, we would buy one again

I was first drawn to the ridgi-pod by it's aircraft grade aluminium poles (they don't break), the modular system (camping for 2 or 12) and Khyam's quality of construction. We have added the full set of bits (even the tunnel to join two ridgi-pods together)from this discontinued tent because no manufacturer can afford to build tents of this quality anymore, so grab one while you can.
The main part of the tent is quickly erected but it does take a while to peg out the tent, but once up it is bullet-proof! It is just so adaptable and was faultless in a year long tour of Europe in 2009, we even accommodated relatives from New Zealand with a tandem plus trailer (yes they all went inside the tent with ease)!
Stayed rock steady at Pickering campervan show when motorhome awnings were becoming Kites!

Manufacturer's Description
The Rigi-Pod concept is simple enough – take your base unit and then decide how many rooms you need, safe in the knowledge that an ‘unused’ pod can be unzipped, stowed and any of the three multi-functional panels supplied inserted at any time.
Conversely, should more space be needed later, you can add another bedroom, simply unzip the panel and zip in the pod.
So whether you are leading a group expedition, camping with friends and family, or you just want to luxuriate in plenty of space, Rigi-Pod is the modular design for you.
Features:
* Weatherweave 3000 flysheet – double coated for maximum waterproofing * Rapidex quick erect system – Allows a large part of the tent to be put up in less time than a conventional pole and sleeve construction * Central hub – Provides great structural rigidity as well as ease of set up * Skylights – Allows increased light into the tent making it more comfortable for extended use * Adjustable poles – Allows for uneven ground * Reinforced pegging points – To avoid wear and tear * Gusseted ventilation points – Control temperature and reduce condensation * Optional spacious bedrooms – Polycotton inners can be zipped in or out to suit your accommodation requirements * Limiters on tri-guys - Increase stability but reduce over tensioning * Aircraft grade aluminium – Main poles made for strength and lightness * Large wide entrances
